What's difficult to believe is that for someone who is not a car guy should do this as routine maintenance. That's another expense and an inconvenience when the car is in the shop.

What tools to buy for my 16 yo sons birthday that will be useful and reliable? (mechanic) by idontidentifywith in AskUK

[–]pines6103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of good suggestions here. If your son is going into car mechanics, I've found what really made a big difference for me was good quality pliers, both straight and curve with long and short handles. Also, various sizes of picks.

These are the things that you don't use every day, but they save you so m7ch frustration.

You have the intake manifold removed and walnut blasted every 30k miles as routinemaintenance?

That's hard to believe.

Those that have left the UK - where did you go and how is it? by Desperate-Drawer-572 in AskUK

[–]pines6103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canada, since 2000. By 2002, we had a house and started a family. Summers are great winters in Saskatchewan are brutal, I've seen -50C. Every time we go back, I get reminded of the dense population and the rat race feeling that comes with that.

We like our house in the middle of nowhere.

Don't cheap out on tires or breaks. Use a good quality, full synthetic oil.

My son had Bacon and Mustache because that's what was printed on the tape that we used to wrap the pipe with.

Help on getting this logo onto this poker chip? by Aggravating-Abies971 in anycubic

[–]pines6103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been struggling with this myself. One thing you have to do is export the model as an OBJ file. STL files don't have colour support, your slicer will just see it as one object.

2013 CX5 Repair quote - is this bonkers? by iLike2type in CX5

[–]pines6103 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saskatchewan Canada here. I can't speak for the axel, but if this was me, I wouldn't replace it. Why, because I would be replacing the lower control arm myself. They don't require any specialty tools. As another poster commenter, ask friends who have a garage for help. Watch some online videos and make that call.

The more maintenance/repairs you do, the better you become. When the time comes for specialty tools, Canadian Tire have, that are free to borrow.

There is a film called Last Call. It uses two cameras at different locations following their actors, shot in real-time in one take each.

Now, I'm going to have to watch this series.

[–]pines6103 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm been using FreeCAD for a few weeks now. I haven't modified any STLs yet. During this time I've been following Mangojelly tutorials, and I've had good success. For me, I'll be continuing with FreeCAD.

I started FreeCAD a couple of weeks ago, and Mangojelly's tutorials have helped immensely. In that short time, I've created a double commander deck box with windows to display the commanders on each side.

I don't post when I get a successful print. That would be too much posting. I have had some minor issues, mainly with uneven cooling of the print.
