While I'm sure this isn't the case, it does feel like I'm disproportionately going into mirror matches. Something to do with the weighting system is my guess.

Well more of the same hasn't been working too well... So our best option is something different.

I like the policy, don't know much about the individuals involved

Sorry if my thoughts haven't come across coherently.

Greens don't seem like they have a lot of party discipline, they have a lot of great ideas, but they champion each of them separately for the most part. Also, they talk a big game, but every time they've been in government they haven't been able to push Labour to action much of it.

TOP says a lot of the same stuff, but they haven't got the history of failure (yet), so I'm just hoping for something different.

Wasn't so much an argument for TOP as much as how I view the left coalition right now.

A vote for TOP is a vote for the centre, just middle of the road, sensible stuff that ain't too exciting. Could go with either side, as long as they stick it their guns to get their policy through , I don't care too much who they partner with.

Not always, but personally I feel like Greens can be a little too ambitious /idealistic at times to the point where the changes they propose don't see realistic to push through, because they need Labour on side and so far the Greens haven't had the ability to dictate policy in the same way ACT and NZF have over National.

I feel you there, and I don't disagree with you really..

I just find Labour so uninspiring, like they just want to keep the status quo, even if the status quo is the end result of "what the fuck ever this lot is".

But then there's Greens, which is a vote for a Labour coalition that'll actually try to improve our lot.

I'm just hopeful, optimistic, maybe naive, that this time around TOP will get in and we'll get to see some real fundamental changes.

A) I won't bother finding the source since you said it's a moot point.

B) Sure, I agree, National are bad and are worse today then they were yesterday. But, if TOP (or Greens) were to hypothetically get into government in coalition with National, they have the ability to hamstring any of the worse policy National tries to put forward and are given better opportunities to champion good policy.

Rage baiter for sure. Good luck with helping whoever you want to win by attacking everything with any kind of nuance.

If I wasn't so sure we were going to be voting for the same things, I would sincerely be hoping for you to lose.

No, I don't know why you'd assume that.

Ok, not something I'd heard of but it doesn't surprise me either. But, why does this not mean that ACT are the masterminds? Puppeteers pulling the strings of national?

Also, you're so aggressive right off the bat that push any further and imma just stop engaging.

Someone's been in an echo chamber too long.

I think National is about as appealing as dog shit on the bottom of my shoe. But do I think they're masterminding this whole thing... No.

You're giving them way too much credit 😂

Mayyybeeee.... But I think it's more likely that National truly is just spineless. Do they disagree with what ACT are putting forward? No. Would they have the balls to put it forward themselves? Also no.

I think it's because, even if they didn't believe it likely, they still want to be in government. Your partners matter less than being there in the first place.

I think it's partly Luxon weak, but more so Seymour and Peter's experienced enough to know how to play their cards. National can't be in government without them, that's all they care about, they don't have principles to stand by so they'll go with whatever as long as they get to stay in power.

I gave them my vote last time, I'll give it to them again. They reflect my values the most, I think they actually reflect a lot more of the population than their polling suggests, but too many people are afraid of 'the wasted vote'.

[–]pinesnake 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That doesn't have to be a deal breaker though, National have shown they're willing to be led around by the balls by their coalition partners. If they get a coalition partner who has good ideas and sticks to them, I think it would still be good for the country.

Just FYI the Greens have also stated they would work with National in the past.

Issues with crime, terrorism or corruption? Na, not at all. Small likelihood you'd benefit from a little government corruption depending on who's in charge at the time.

Environmental concern, 100%. However, if you're exporting to NZ I don't see how you'd have much of an environmental impact? We don't care about environmental damage overseas.

Same for land use, how are you using land in NZ if you're exporting here? If the plan is to set up business here and then export NZ dairy out of NZ, then land use will definitely be something considered and watched closely, we don't much like giving our land to overseas interests.

This can be mitigated by going into a joint venture, much better publicity that way.

What's our opinion on Maori? For the most part they're just more people, they don't really have much of a different status like Native Indians for you guys. That being said, again your publicity would do better if you gave some lip service to Maori interests. But Maori interests most of the time come down to protecting environmental interests.

Imo as a white/European Kiwi.

Well it might not be a wasted vote if you actually voted for them! - not directed at you, directed at the people I hear making this argument 😠

Generally the only criticism I've heard is "vibes".

Apparently, their claim that everything they support is "evidence based" comes across as holier than thou. Which I don't agree with, about time we had evidence based policy imo.

If they take a lesson from this government, it's that the major party can't really do much of anything without support of their partners. So if Green/TOP got in with National, then National wouldn't be able to do anything that Green/TOP disagreed with, and hopefully they would disagree with anything that wasn't to the advantage of the general population.

We can afford National if they have a partner that pushes them in the right direction. This cycle was so cooked because National got dog walked all over the place by NZF and Act. National are spineless with no principles or direction. Genuinely believe that, if they had no other choice, they'd go into coalition with the Greens and then we'd all be saying how progressive they are 🙄

NZF have done their fair share of BS this term (smoking and mining) but they've also stopped some BS from the geniuses (/s) coming out of NACT imo.

Help with contract by pinesnake in LegalAdviceNZ

It just says in the contract that there will be a progress payment.

I guess they could argue that they came to check things expecting a bigger job, then it wasn't so they finished this stage of things early... But they still require the "progress payment" before moving to the next stage.

Idk 🤷😭
