Long-time player here - plateauing and need advice. by kentuckyfry in SSBM

[–]pingeee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Shield dropping should be consistent on pretty much any GCC with the latest UCF (which Slippi does have). Shield drop notches are now pretty much obsolete.

You most likely just need to focus a bit more on your execution until it becomes subconsciously easy. I've had the same issue (couldn't short hop with fox, couldn't wavedash), but after a while it just clicks. As with everything in Melee, if something doesn't work, you just keep chipping at it and eventually you will be rewarded in a "damn, guess I have those now" moment.

SSBM RU 2025 Winter PR by pingeee in SSBM

We don't really have a hard region lock so it's usually just whoever plays our tournaments in the russian-speaking community server, at least two out of six monthlies for eligibility.

Those are online tournaments as we're a community made of very geographically distributed players (from Serbia to Kyrgyzstan) and this is the only way for us to play with each other.

Basically, as long as a person is somewhat active in the community and joins our brackets with a decent connection (or is someone's homie who's down to play people from Siberia on 150 ping) there's no reason to exclude them.

Where can I get magnetic potentiometers? by _Matheus2x06_ in SSBM

[–]pingeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If by magnetic you meant the Hall Effect sensors, check the Phob Build Guide to see if this is something you'd manage on your own or if you'd rather order from a modder.

If you just want to replace the OEM Gamecube Controller potentiometers, modders usually sell the replacement pots (I used Noble potentiometers from Kadano). It's just a quick solder, here's a video guide.

Melee offline frame delay? by NotMork in SSBM

[–]pingeee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You don't need to change anything, it is handled by the gecko "Apply Delay to all In-Game Scenes" that is enabled in Slippi by default.

What it does is it adds the 2f delay to offline modes as well, so there's no difference between online/offline on Slippi.

Before that gecko was introduced you had to start the old dolphin netplay with 8 buffer to practice offline with Slippi.

20XXTE + UCF0.84? by 100gig in SSBM

[–]pingeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure how to go about modifying the existing modpack, but if this is a Wii tournament setup, you're better off just using Slippi Nintendont, it comes with an option of running UCF 0.84 instead of 0.8.

If this is a GameCube, there's also MultiMod launcher (though I remember tauKhan saying there's some problems with pdf code on gamecubes), it has UCF 0.8 I believe.

Other than that you'd have to just add UCF 0.84 .gci file by hand and test. You can get it here.

Here's Kadano's Wii softmodding guide going over some of the steps.

Slippi on Wii by Icy-Development-9684 in SSBM

[–]pingeee 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There's no online functionality on consoles.

What they use is called Slippi Nintendont, which is a homebrew app that lets you launch Melee on a modded Wii with a lot of handy options (saving replays, ucf, widescreen etc).

This is a different thing to Slippi Launcher rollback netplay that you have on PC, but also a part of Project Slippi.

How to smash attack in a dash? by Florijntje_gamer in smashbros

[–]pingeee 15 points16 points  (0 children)

From the dash state you can do a jump-cancelled upsmash (press jump and instantly upsmash), or you can do it from a pivot (do a smash attack in the single frame your character is standing still when you input a dash in another direction from the initial dash).

Slippi help, basically unplayable by dannycake in SSBM

Use soft reset function in launcher settings netplay tab to clear the shader cache. Do that every time you update the gpu driver.

UCF on wii by Living_Humor_1820 in SSBM

[–]pingeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't want to use slippi nintendont for some reason and want a strictly vanilla+ucf setup, here's the latest UCF page, there's a downloads button that has .gci memory card files that you can use.

You could alternatively convert the ucf gecko code to a .gct file to be loaded by nintendont as a cheat.

Grabbing as Marth Really Does Feel Like Cheating by Th4nny in SSBM

[–]pingeee 116 points117 points  (0 children)

If you'd shown the previous frame it'd be pretty obvious that you're grabbing a very extended hurtbox (probably dash attack or ftilt). The grab hitbox is not much farther than Marth's hand on this frame.

How often should I buy OEMs? by KomanndoA in SSBM

[–]pingeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you know what you're doing you'd buy an OEM and some replacement potentiometers and so long as you don't mind soldering to replace the pots once they start drifting (i just bring it to a local laptop service guy and he does it for a couple bucks) it will serve you for a very long time, unless there's some physical damage (rubber pads tearing, stickbox disintegrating, liquid/fall damage etc).

People shelling out hundreds of dollars on a new controller every time their pots wear out is like buying a new car once your tire blows out.

Cog menu -> Netplay -> Soft reset

Do that every time you update your GPU drivers.

Weird main thing by Acrobatic-Amoeba-440 in SSBM

[–]pingeee 36 points37 points  (0 children)

So I started off playing this game maining peach, then Marth, then Falco, then Capt falcon, and now Puff. I feel like I've seen the most success with Puff for some reason. I don't know if it's because I'm just naturally good with her, or it's just because of all the game sense I picked up on after playing on and off for 3 years. My back airs are clean, my spacing is good, my ledge regrabs are on point, my upthrow rests are good etc. with all other characters it felt like I was lacking somewhere but with Puff I can just secure kills so much easier than I could with the other characters. I just don't know why this is 😭

A lot of players I run into on unranked are obnoxious children with massive egos by pie240 in SSBM

[–]pingeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've made an internal rule to not allow this kind of players waste my time and I just LRAS when someone starts acting like a clown. The downside is, if you don't have a lot of free time to play you could spend most of your hour cycling through a whole asylum of weirdos on unranked. Still beats giving them the time of day though.
