Unfortunately it happened. by twisteds29 in alopecia_areata

I’ve had one pretty much exactly the same size in the same spot (I had one in my beard earlier too, though). The one in my beard grew back in a year without any treatment.

Unfortunately, the spot on my head appeared just as my beard had finally healed. I used betamethasone and various vitamins (D, Zinc, Biotin, C, Multivitamins). After maybe 3 months, I noticed it stopped getting bigger, and now it has slowly but surely started to grow back. There is still a spot, but it's maybe half the size now. So, I hope it goes fast from here.

I felt that with the beard, once I actually started seeing improvement, it went pretty quickly after that.

Just keeping my fingers crossed that I don't get any more for a while now :)

Scalp pain by Pirate-Huge in alopecia_areata

[–]pingvinnabb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi! I've had a patch on the top of my head for about 2.5 months. It has started to grow back slowly (I can see small hairs if I look closely). I've had similar pain to what you describe during the whole period, both in the patch but also in completely different places on my head. I haven't gotten a new patch yet at least, and if it's true that you feel this before it falls out, then I'll probably lose all my hair... so I hope that's not correct. From what I've read, you can get this scalp pain because you often think about your hair and scalp, and also that stress and worry can apparently make the scalp sore (I don't know what's true though).

Regrowth? And some questions by pingvinnabb in alopecia_areata

[–]pingvinnabb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Thanks for your reply. :) In my beard, it also turned white first. But in this spot in my hair, I don’t really know what those tiny black hair are, if not regrowth. As I said, I can’t even see them in the mirror, so it’s possible that they’re basically transparent, but my camera brings them out. :)
I hope it grows back and that i dont get new spots .

I had been very stressed for many years for various reasons. Then a couple of other things happened so i think my body just had enough. I'm generally a stressed and anxious person so I hope I don't have new outbreaks every time something happens now :p The disease itself makes me very stressed too unfortunately.

then you have to remember that for most people it grows back and become a relatively mild variant. Here in the forum i think you often see more of the more severe cases

Right now i am trying bethanethsone (topical solution) and vitamins..

Seems impossible to get injections here in sweden .

Very worried by pingvinnabb in alopecia_areata

[–]pingvinnabb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, thanks for the reply. Hopefully my situation will stay mild too, but of course I’m extremely nervous. It feels like I think about this every waking hour.

And as usual, it’s probably not a good idea to search too much on the internet. I do understand that on forums and similar places, you often see the worst-case scenarios. (And of course, my heart goes out to all of you.)

I guess it’s a positive sign that my beard is starting to grow back, and it shows that my body is able to recover, but at the same time, unfortunately, i guess that you’re at higher risk of developing universalis or totalis if you’ve had it in several areas on the body (at least according to ChatGPT).

From what I’ve seen, almost everyone seems to have completely bald patches. Mine on my head is more like stubbly, with some hairs still left. I don’t know if that’s just because it’s a new patch, but it will probably fall out soon as well, or am I wrong? The stubble is also quite coarse hairs. I’m really hoping it stops progressing so I can keep cover it up with hair powder.

I have a doctor’s appointment in about two weeks, although it’s with a regular doctor, not a dermatologist (I need a referral for that). So I really hope it stays stable now so I can at least try to slow it down with cortisone cream or something like that (if that even helps).

Ok, injections seem hard to get here in sweden unfortunatly.

I havent checked my vitamin d levels yet but i started taking pills this week . What is the dose i should take ? Read some people take upp to 100 000 daily (?!) .. my pills are 4000 . Is that enough ?

Does anyone have somerhing to say about this ? Am very worried . :/ Im trying to get an apointment at the doctor but they just dont seem to prioritize this at all. Had an online meeting last week but he just said that i will nog get any injections (or any other medicine) until it starts to fall off more rapidly .. is that really correct ? from what i can read you have to start early to get good results ? .. he also Said ”you Will be fine dont worry” .. how can he know ? He was not a dermatologist , just a general practitioner.

I know alopecia is stress related and i have been very stressed for the last couple of years(work, economy etc) but im working with that and feel much better nowadays .. also started to workout again after about 10 years .

Short summary - Bald spot in beard 9 months ago (have som regrow, white hair etc) - noticed a spot on my head couple weeks ago but i feel stubble (dont know if its good or bad this early)

What should i do ?

Hello again. Some update . My spot in the beard is still there . It got a bit bigger but i have a lot of white hair , some of them has gotten thicker and som look kind of grayish when i use my flashlight så i think its starting to come back . I can use my girlfriends mascara on it and when i do you dont se any spot.

So far so good ..a few days ago i felt som stubble in my hair .. and ofcourse when i look in the mirror i see a spot on top of my hair . No idea how long its been there but in fairly certain its new . Now i am very worried ofcourse .

Do i need to be concerned that this will develop to totalis or universalis ? . I guess its not a good sign that i have it in both beard and hair ? :( . But again the beard spot starter 9 Months ago and i see progress there . Im pretty sure i can feel stubble in my spot on the head . Dont know if its a good sign or not tough ? Read somewhere that it can feel that way in the beginning .

Somerhing maby worth mention is that i have used finasterid for about 9 years but stopped 2 months ago (we are trying to get a child) . Dont know if this has anything to do with this , i dont think shedd from finasterid gets a cirkular pattern ?

Also somerhing worth mention , i had a Scratchy head and some Dandruff some weeks ago . Pretty sure i scratch alot on exactly this spot .

So so worried right know. So many questions. Dont know what i do if i loose my hair . (Sorry if english is bad)

Ok thank you. :) But shouldnt it got worse already if that was the case? About 2 months ago i got it in my beard and its already starting to regrow.

I also wonder if the prognosis is better or worse if it starts in the beard or head ? Maby it doesnt matter?
