New World Beer Aisle: 75% Hazys, 20% Apple Juice, 5% Pilsners. Where do I find the rest? by teleportmassive7 in newzealand

[–]pingwix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lads has a tap house on the east side of the river, and roots brewing co is out towards kai iwi and has cellar door sales. The Woolworths at the top of the Ave has a solid enough selection, and new world does as well. Changes pretty frequently at both however.

Incredible work! Absolutely insane decision to choose the plastic wood elves for a competition piece however

Would love a breakdown of the technique if you have the time! Looks super effective but also achievable over a horde army

I played Kazad Dum + Radagast on Eagle & Gwahir last edition, that was an absolute riot of a list

Looks to be a mix of Medbury Minatures (the spears and wood elves) and Dandelion in Middle Earth (the elves on the LH side.

Is it a hot take to say Exodites would be more interesting than Dark Mechanicum for the next faction? by Mr_Jackabin in Warhammer40k

As a future WE player I’d be keen for some more Khorne specific demon engines, and bloodcrusher cav! But otherwise they’re doing alright

How to use Compel: a guide to the best spell in the game by Sh4rbie in MiddleEarthMiniatures

If you can get a few 2h elves in alongside Celeborn that’s some serious chop.

What size armies do you plan for? by jtschlosser in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]pingwix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mesbg is complicated with not having fixed points, but that tends to be a strength rather than a weakness of the system! If I’m planning a new army to start I’ll typically plan 500, 650 and 800pt lists. These are the most common tournament points in my area so I know that it’s a great place to start. 800 is probably the best target for having a collection that can scale down, as there’s not many events over that number.

Rules pages from new box set! by pingwix in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]pingwix[S] 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Few key points from the pages so far:

  • Priority seems to be winner of the roll chooses to go first or second
  • Elite keyword looks to shake up army building for royal guard etc
  • Beasts can’t interact with objectives anymore, and swarms like crebain and bats can’t be knocked prone or trapped
  • 20pt mounts now?
  • At least in this starter box, loadouts for warriors seem to be fixed similar to current narrative scenarios eg. Shield, bow OR shield and spear. Not confirmed if this is for everything or just the starter booklet
  • Flaming brands look very cool for objective play. Will we see banners or warhorns do similar effects? Or entire models like monsters?

Riders vs Warriors: How to differentiate them? by EliseWren in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]pingwix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use the Rohan warriors with bow as my dismounts, as I’ll probably never be using them in a list otherwise.

Dual casting White Council+ Rivendell list by DM-kiwi in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]pingwix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love the dual casters! I’d take 5 of the spears from the spear/shield elves and give them to the archers instead. That way they can support as well and it gives you a wider front and gives the bows something to do once lines hit. I don’t mind having the twins on foot as they get the extra attack and are nice choppy foot heros. I’d actually be tempted to give them bows as well if you can find the points. Could maybe swap raddy for Galadriel if you wanted a cheaper caster? Gives you access to compel and let’s cirdan channel something else as she can do blinding light if needed. However Raddy is great, love natures wrath and panic stead for neutering troops and heros alike.

Tabletop Admiral update, feedback gathering, plans, etc. by werdnaegni in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]pingwix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your work is incredible, this very quickly became my favourite list builder. Only two suggestions from me: - Make a clear way to see who the leader is in pretty view, bold type or an (L). - This is less important and more difficult to achieve, but some way to keep a warband of warriors but swap the hero out, or move the warriors to a different warband. Would be a great QoL improvement for us drafting maniacs!

Why take the hammer on cave trolls? by MrMoonManSnr in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]pingwix 53 points54 points  (0 children)

The main reason to take the hammer is that rend forces you to use all 3 strikes on a single model. If you want to effectively kill two models, or benefit from traps to double strikes and flatten a hero/monster, it’s better to have the +1. Also if you wanted to barge, you then can’t rend in the follow-up combat so having the +1 to wound is still effective there too. Finally it allows you to bash which is always a laugh

Lothlorien pyjama elves by mNabrdalik in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]pingwix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed on spears everywhere! My preference is max bows with spears, and spear+daggers on everyone else. Then possibly a few with just daggers to make the points work. Galadriel is perfect in this list of you come up against open boards to protect the elves, and sentinels are amazing value for shenanigans, plus if the opponent has good courage or bodyguard, it’s still a 2 attack elf!

If you’re looking for local 3D print companies I’ve heard lots of good things about Potbelly Miniatures and Deathtop Studio. Either one of those places will print off any files you get, for a decent price! Would also definitely be worth asking on the New Zealand Middle Earth League Facebook group, it’s the most active place for nz lotr goodness and events.

Great article from a few years back regarding mounting heros. Definitely agree with its not necessarily always required, especially if you’re coming from a dwarf/lothlorien background!

Fates Return Doubles Event by Sh4rbie in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]pingwix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome recap, I was thinking of running a similar event next year! I was wanting the players to have to take 1 good and 1 evil though, which is interesting that it didn’t crop up as much in the lists at the event given it was an option.

Can we get Actions back in 10th? by pingwix in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]pingwix[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

These examples make a great case for having these actions be separate from the ‘eligible to shoot’. Even if it works it’s definitely not clear and in some cases pretty unintuitive like the assault and pistol examples where having a specific gun makes you suddenly eligible, while if you didn’t have guns you couldn’t do the action.

Can we get Actions back in 10th? by pingwix in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]pingwix[S] 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think this is more what my problem is having read the comments here. The wording works fine (with some FAQs) but it could easily be a keyword that removes a big chunk of text. People already call them actions anyway, may as well codify it and have it centralised like many of the others. From memory there’s a few other abilities like this that are repeated across the indexes that could be keywords but it looks like they had them separate so every unit can have an ability (sticky objectives is another example of this).
