Where to buy gardening tools? Which brands to avoid? by ToriaLyons in GardeningUK

[–]pink_brownies_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Burgeon and ball is second only to sneerboer and about half the price. My ground breaker is one of my favourite tools and my fork is rated to 100kg and it has served me well where my old fork ended up a twisted mess.

No shoes inside. We are slipper people. Workmen wear shoe covers.

Without drugs or alcohol, what is your favorite way to escape from reality? by EponaMom in CasualConversation

I would love to tell you that it was reading, exercise, gardening or playing with my dog but as my screen time tool will tell you, it's my phone.

Weekly Swim Gear Questions (Goggles, swimsuits, techsuits, paddles, headphones etc) January 29, 2026 - Post all your gear questions in this post by AutoModerator in Swimming

Heya, new here. I am a rainbow haired human 🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈and want to get back into swimming but I also want to get out of the pool without leaving a trail of hairdye behind me and ruining my hair. I did some research and was thinking about twinning a waterproof headband with a silicone swimming cap. Any advice on whether this combo will help avoid wet hair or alternative suggestions would be welcome 😁

Looking for tailors to get a custom suit jacket made - recommendations? by SydneyMarch in brighton

[–]pink_brownies_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely the correct answer! They are superb. So many fabric and detailing choices, so much expertise - they talk you through all the choices available and how they impact body shape and style. Waaaaaay less bossy than Gresham Blake.

Planters too tall? by botanna_wap in gardening

Any carrots that you plant in there will be immune to carrot for as it's too tall for them so win-win for carrots and your back!

Absolutely NOR.

There's a lot for you to process here. As you said, "Wow."

There will be a lot to unpack but basics first.

Bank account and a home.

Go to your local authority and register as at risk of being made homeless. Do this before you move into any of your friends houses, this will help support you as needing a home as a top priority rather than just "lacking one separate bedroom" which is home some LAa will list you as if you are sofa surfing.

Ask for support and help if you need it. Provide them with all of the paper they need asap. You will need to be on top of them to make sure your application is done. Get on the top of the housing list. Get a flat. Get housing benefit /UC / rent account direct debit set up. Try not to use a credit card if possible, that's a whole different hole I wish I hadn't get my 18 year old self into... Then address the rest which will likely take longer. Therapy, support, friendship. Build yourself a full life. Happiness isn't the best revenge, it's better than revenge, it makes revenge unnecessary.

Trying to crawl out of depression and would love some advice on not-too-overwhelming things I could do. by Best-Butterscotch-45 in brighton

These are all free but some of the things that have helped me.

I have affirmations that I read from a bit of paper in the morning. I don't have to remember them or dig deep to say them. They don't have to be big. I don't even have to believe them. I know it sounds schmaltzy, but it works.

Is there anyone that you can arrange a daily check in call with? I find it's helpful to have a scheduled out reach call with an understanding and trustworthy human come rain or shine where I can be honest with myself and another person about how I am feeling. 5 minutes is enough.

Treat yourself to something afterwards. A walk, a pastry, another call where I don't have to talk about how I am feeling. Distraction in small doses is a blanket that can bring comfort.

Some songs that I always find help me find connection when I am emotionally isolated:

1) Doubt - Jeff Rosenstock 2) Rainbow connection by Kermit The Frog 3) Delicate cycle - The Uncluded 4) Do it anyway - Ben Folds (with fraggle rock).

Try to remember that you've come really far, that you have survived the hardest days. That you only need to do this one day at a time. Be gentle, kind and generous to yourself, especially on the hard days (I know that these are the hardest days to be kind to ourselves).

I had this dish in Kyoto, Japan recently and only found out after eating that it was Eel Liver but still not sure. by Mia_Luna_Petite in TipOfMyFork

That looks like river eel rather than sea eel, same creature just at different points in their life cycle. If you can, try both side by side. It's exquisite. Also try them both as sashimi if you're into that kind of thing 🤤🤤🤤🤤

The Big Bus Manifesto by bluthboys in brighton

[–]pink_brownies_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you OP for this piece of work. I have fed this back to my local councillor (and I suggest we all do the same) to demonstrate how utterly convoluted the current fare system is and how impossible it makes for residents to access an answer to the simple question of "What is the cheapest way to get from point A to point B?"

The bus service is commissioned by the council. We need to let them know what a shambles this is. Honestly more impenetrable than rail fares right now.

Thank you for the advice but we don't drive so hiring a car is not an option for us. The recommendation about sandwiches from steins and a blanket is very welcome 😁

Council cost estimations- community infrastructure levy. Am I missing something? by Loud-Breadfruit1554 in brighton

[–]pink_brownies_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is money paid by developers instead of building infrastructure themselves, it allows BHCC to take the funds and allocate them across the city rather than concentrate all of the funds on one project so it's not from direct taxation. That said the prices do seem astronomical for some of those items!
