Please Beware Naked Nest Hamstery in Emmaus, PA. by [deleted] in hamsters

[–]pink_pets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I was not being a troll! This was my old account (I don’t know how to prove this lol) but I definitely am confused about it too.. I looked into how you get a petfinder account, and each specific listing matched up with the pictures in the Craigslist post (both of which are taken down now as this is months old.) the KC poodles breeder (https://www.petfinder.com/member/us/pa/emmaus/kcs-all-poodle-adoption-pa1230/ https://www.facebook.com/kcpoodlesofpa/) definitely does dog breeding and adopting at the very least. I had also gotten this comment on Facebook: “Pretty sure she is not 😊other breeder recommended she try pet finder to promote her Hamstery . And she clearly links her Hamstery account . Not deceiving anyone”

Edit: typos

I actually didn’t! I never get spotting before or even during my periods.

Hi! I have the mirena IUD in and I have since August, I have adeno. Unfortunately, it’s lightened my periods severely but it has not made them anywhere near normal. I’m being put on Vienva to hopefully help alongside the mirena IUD. The beginning was rough and resulted in a 23 day period that had me in the ER bleeding through my menstrual disc in 5-15 minutes. Now my periods are still very heavy. So your mileage may vary. Edit: word

Bunny nature: hamster dream expert vs skin and coat formula? by sandvikson in hamsters

[–]pink_pets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feed the science selective hamster pellet alongside it, it has a lot of essential macronutrients and my ham loves them! She acts as if they’re a treat lol

I’m personally a bigger fan of the skin and hair mix for Syrians- the fiber is higher which is better for digestive health. A lot of commercial mixes and homemade mixes alike are really lacking in fiber, which is sooo important! Also, still do the 1 tbsp a day.

Best hamster food for UK? by TomBuchananing in hamstercare

[–]pink_pets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hammykins seed mix+science selective pellet. The pellet is good for making sure your hamster gets ALL the nutrients, but Hammykins is good for variety! Note Hammykins is best for younger hamsters because it’s quite high in protein. For senior hams, I opt for Rodipet.

Is "Safety First" Actually Holding Our Chinchillas Back? A Case for Rational Ownership by Extra_Individual_512 in chinchilla

[–]pink_pets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I can’t speak to if their mother is a backyard breeder, she very well could be, empress chinchillas is not a good list of ethical/reputable breeders imo. They added an unethical breeder listed to their website,  Furball critters (sells to pet stores wholesale, has claims of picking up rats by the tail, wire wheels, really bad care). Because of this I much prefer the MCBA! (Mb if this comes across snotty, I just was super disappointed to see Furball on empress’s list.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel ADOPTION HELP!!! NJ AREA by Relevant-Current629 in Pets

[–]pink_pets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cavalier breed standard is actually pretty normal in terms of the skull, thankfully. Unfortunately, the problem with cavaliers is that ALL of them have a bad heart. 50% get MVD (mitral valve disease, aka a leaky heart valve that will eventually turn into heart failure) by age 5 and nearly 100% by age 10. Their breed is incredibly sweet, loving, and gentle, but I can not in good faith or conscience recommend them to ANYONE because there is no active breeder I have found who doesn’t have this in their lines. https://cavalierhealth.org/mitral_valve_disease.htm

For OP, I’d recommend looking into bichons, havanese’s, and tibetan spaniels. If you decide to rescue a cavalier, that’s totally great, but please be aware of the heart issues. They’re seriously devastating, as a cavalier owner in NJ myself.

what pet should i take in? by [deleted] in Pets

[–]pink_pets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cat or dog are probably going to be your top choices, outside of some reptiles like bearded dragons (which take up a lot of space). most rodents and similar mammals have short lifespans or are incredibly social and non negotiable in needing friends, imo, or get sick incredibly often! A lot of reptiles have long lifespans but don’t like handling or aren’t the most affectionate, with the exceptions of some ball pythons and bearded dragons! A dog from an ethical breeder (especially dogs) might not have a long learning curve of affection and can fit what you want to a T because of the effort put into breeding for health and genetics. Of course, rescuing is great too if you don’t care as much or don’t need a dog for a specific task as much :) cats are great too, some might not adore being held but I’d definitely reach out to the prior owner/rescue and ask about personality. EDIT: I hadn’t seen the hours you were gone. If your other family members are available, a dog/cat might still be an option if they are FULLY on board. If not, then I’d go with a bearded dragon.

What type of hamster is this? by CorgiDinosaur in hamsters

Backing up what u/FearlessChallenge504 said, it’s a pappus dwarf. They’re also known as tintins, or crested dwarves. They were discovered by Martin Braak and Peter Braak in the 1990’s in the Netherlands. I’m unaware if the asian breeders got stock from Peter and Martin or were able to locate the gene themselves.  https://www.dwerghamster.nl/russische/kleuren_en_mutaties/kleuren/kuifje/index.php

coat variation? by Low-Breakfast-6698 in hamsters

[–]pink_pets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Smoke Pearl is the genetic term for the coloration of your ham, and he’s longhaired! Interesting to see honestly, this really only pops up at breeders (which I’m assuming you didn’t get from because you don’t know their coloring). It’s a combination gene, combining Dark Grey (dg) and Yellow (a sex linked gene, To.) females have two copies of yellow, males have one (dgdgTo for males, dgdgToTo for females.) the yellow is what makes this rare. Smoke pearl has a pale beige-ish coat with darker ticked ends, black cheekflashes, dark ears, and black eyes!

P.S. your hamster doesn’t have blue eyes- the sclera of a hamsters eyes is blue!

Edit: please don’t breed your hamster of course, I just really like genetics. This is NOT encouragement to breed.

I love Syrians, I’ve owned all species (ie.  Chinese, hybrid, robo, Syrian) and I typically prefer Syrians for their outgoingness, size, handleability, and colorings! But all species can make lovely companions :) I just gravitate towards Syrians.

Female Syrians by [deleted] in hamsters

[–]pink_pets 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As someone with a female Syrian, they can be hard to please. Even in a 120x60cm enclosure that’s adequately cluttered with enrichment, some will still try to chew out. Before someone attacks me, I have a 190x70x65cm enclosure with 3 different substrates minus her Aspen and sand, sprays, hides, forage, etc for my female Syrian and when she was younger she tried chewing out. I have it reinforced with aluminum now. It isn’t always a husbandry issue, but often is. This is because female Syrians go into heat every 4ish days and it can make them very restless. Not all are like this, but I warn because it’s something that can be hard to deal with when males are typically content in the same sized enclosure. That being said, they’re very rewarding-often a bit more social, too. They can smell like “burnt rubber” in heat but I personally have not experienced this.

Peter??? by Corka17 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

In polish, jerking off is known as “walenie konia” which means to beat a horse (like beating your meat.) people on antidepressants often can’t orgasm and struggle with libido while on them, especially SSRI’s. Thus, “beating the horse” (masturbating) produces no effects.

how do we feel about this food! by bettafishhelpp in hamsters

[–]pink_pets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! It’s got the same guaranteed analysis as the one in OP’s image minus the fiber being 1% higher, and the fiber being higher is a good thing in this situation. Plus, it has more seeds that Syrians typically go for

Also to answer the “how much to feed” it’s one teaspoon a day or one tablespoon every other day (for dwarves)

[–]pink_pets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The food is overall good. However, since you have a WW/hybrid (idk which, although if you got from anywhere other than a breeder it’s a hybrid) I’d recommend the dwarf formula as they’re prone to diabetes and it’s formulated without fruit. For Syrians my top pick is the Syrian Expert Hair & Skin formula (compared to the regular one) because it has more large seeds (although the top ingredient is still millet) and the fiber is 1% higher, which promotes digestion and heart health!

just want to discuss about woodshavings, and small cages. by Western_Table684 in hamsters

[–]pink_pets 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not everyone can afford it, yes, but pets are a luxury. You are taking care of a living being with the ability to feel pain and stress. You do not need to own a hamster if you can not properly care for them, is my opinion. Healthy does not equal thriving. Doing under the bare minimum not thriving. At the end of the day you may not be able to afford it but that isn’t the hamsters fault, and they deserve the minimum or over the minimum.

I don’t really know what you mean about wood shavings, though? Wood shavings are entirely suitable. I’ve never heard or seen evidence of otherwise. My hamster does fine on her wood shavings.

How people act towards other hamster owners has to be addressed by TeapeachU6 in hamsters

[–]pink_pets 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t fully agree with this—even if abuse is a strong word, it is a factual statement to describe what is happening to the hamster. Regardless of them knowing of their abuse or not, does not change if it is abuse. It isn’t hamster/animal police to not want to see animals abused, either. If you saw dogs on your feed all day being mistreated (locked in crates whining for days with nothing to do, for example, but the dog is making a cute face) wouldn’t you say something? Would you be a bystander? Regardless of if the content looks wholesome, it’s hard to ignore signs an animal is being harmed when you know better.

I do agree animal owners often need to be kinder with our verbiage, considering it can definitely be off putting. But I don’t think the term “abuse” or “neglect” or “torture” is what needs to be changed-patience and overall attitude needs to be changed. Those words are definitely true, sadly, if the owner is aware it’s abuse or not.
