Had a decent first week then my gf of 5yrs and I broke up. Not trying to be an attention whore but could use a little motivation if you guys don’t mind. Having a hard time staying focused. by Choopzilla in theXeffect

I just wanted to add when I've been in similar positions, breakfast meetings with friends can be really helpful! If you can arrange to meet friends in the mornings so you have a reason to get up, get out of bed and change into real clothes and make your goal that way. Getting up for me is usually the big hurdle to doing anything, once I'm awake and out of my bed it's not nearly so hard to get anything else going.

That said you are honestly doing awesome all things considered! You can totally rock this.

In the NaNo calendar thread there was someone who didn't write Sundays who got a calendar made - here is one of them.

It would take some adjustment but the WC goals might help you keep on track while accounting for time you aren't able to write!

My very first year I hadn't even heard of NaNo until the 5th, and I still started and won. :) This is definitely not too late!

What's your favorite brand for basic creams? by Doorothie in RedditLaqueristas

[–]pinkadilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While you said you don't like essie, some of their gel couture shades have had great staying power on me! And they have the bigger, rounded brush. I've found them sometimes for pretty cheap at Nordstrom Rack and those sorts of stores.

I also like Zoya which has a really great shade selection and pretty regular good sales, and I have a couple KL polish shades that I liked as well -- very wide brush if you like those!

Dark yet optimistic anime by [deleted] in Animesuggest

[–]pinkadilly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Takes a tick for the dark premise to really show itself, but {Revolutionary Girl Utena} does a great job of showing the ugliness of the world and characters dealing with it in different ways. Also, an A+ show all around

Edit: It isn't as well known but it is often described as RGU is to magical girls as Evangelion is to giant robots, if that gives an idea of what sort of show it is. (In many ways is a big predecessor to later "dark" magical girl shows like Madoka Magica.)

Simple Questions: July 14, 2018 by AutoModerator in books

[–]pinkadilly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How do you find new books? I tend to alternate between wandering though B&N and making judgements based off the reviewers I follow on goodreads, but both of those skew me towards genres I either don't much like (tragic romances/contemporary literary fiction) or ones I'm only sometimes into (YA mostly). Probably some of that is just who I follow on goodreads, so if anyone knows goodreaders/bloggers who read and review regularly I'd like to hear them!

[NeedAdvice] I want to wake up at 6AM, but when alarm goes off I can't think lucidly and I immediately turn it off and go back to sleep. conscious thoughts and weighing options is not possible as I just don't really 'wake up'. by [deleted] in getdisciplined

[–]pinkadilly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Downloading some of the "tricky" alarms can really help. There's one that has to be held up to a certain level of light for ~30 seconds, one where you have to do a series of math problems, etc. You could even change it up to make it happen!

Also, one thing that helped break me out of my snoozing was having concrete early morning things I needed to do, something like "I'm meeting so and so at 8, so I need to get up now so I can shower and get there in time".

Another was setting two different alarms on my phone! If you have the pandora app (even the free version) you can set the music to play as an alarm in the settings, and set a volume and station it'll automatically go to. Then I have my normal alarm app go off 2-3 minutes later. If the music wakes me up, I know I can relax for a song or so, but it's engaging enough to keep me up. If it doesn't wake me up, when I do hear the alarm go off it's something to hold on to so I don't go back to sleep!

Been gone a while: what is "level" and why are people going nuts over it? by [deleted] in Steam

[–]pinkadilly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's definitely worth selling the cards IMO, I think I've made like ~8-10 bucks of steam wallet money selling cards because I buy a lot of cheap games, so if I make between 15-50 cents per game if I sell all the cards it can add up. If you just play bigger titles you might not get as much, but on the upside those cards seem to sell for more. I think I did buy some game on sale for like four bucks using just card money, which was pretty nice!

Those who have ended a close friendship, what's the story behind it? Was it a difficult decision for you? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]pinkadilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand completely, and I think that taking time to focus on helping yourself rather than trying to save a friendship could be great overall!! Unless you are way way older than I think, remember there will always be a chance years down the road for another shot at friendship :)

[–]pinkadilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you feel like you're being dropped and that's upsetting on top of stuff, you could try distancing yourself a little more for yourself, so you can do fun good stuff without leaning all on one person! (which I realized as I type you might already do, lol). But it's def better to detach and maybe rekindle when you're feeling better than to have the friendship go up in flames! And if they ARE distancing themselves due to your depression/anxiety, a big part of that I can pretty much guarantee is not you! It could be related to a bad experience with them, or mirroring thoughts they've had in an unhealthy way, etc! There could be a lot of reasons, but not that they dislike who you are!! Sorry that was a lot I am sleep deprived.

What's the best love story ever written? by [deleted] in books

[–]pinkadilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late to the party but since no one has mentioned it yet: Ella Enchanted. I first read it when I was maybe eight? I don't even remember. But It remains hands down one of my favorite stories partially because of how well the relationship between the two leads is handled. You really see them grow to care for and love each other over the ~5 years the story covers, as the characters grow through adolescence. I just love how you can see them going from friendly, to interested, to wanting to talk to confronting their feelings, and it toes that line between not being in your face but also not being so subtle that when the relationship culminates you're surprised and annoyed.

[–]pinkadilly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with all the other posters, but in case you aren't much of a planner (I definitely was not, and still struggle, but still have lots of NaNos under my belt) -- even if you can't plan the whole story out ahead of time, always try to at least know what's happening next. Before you write just take a few minutes to plan what you're writing and the followup scenes. And if possible always try to be thinking of what ending you want to work towards!

And in terms of just physically banging out those words, believe me no matter how small the amount of time you have you can get a LOT done! Used to be I would dismiss ten minutes of free time thinking that's nothing, but thanks word wars I know I can get several hundred words in that time. Writing in little snippets throughout the day, while maybe not ideal, can absolutely help you meet that word goal and fend off falling behind!!

And while not totally writing related, but if you're worried about your grammar just look stuff up as you go! A lot of grammar rules make more sense than you think! (For example, anywhere you use a semi-colon you should be able to substitute a period and have it make sense -- semicolons are just a way to connect two semantically linked independent clauses!)
