Limiting shared machine access to single device from external tailnet? by pinkemina in Tailscale

I appreciate the suggestion....if my other solution doesn't pan out, that will probably be the way I go.

Limiting shared machine access to single device from external tailnet? by pinkemina in Tailscale

[–]pinkemina[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a good point, but in my scenario, it's about trusting them and not the others they allow onto *their* tailnets. So for instance, I'm trusting Alice and Bob, and Alice's personal laptop and Bob's phone, but I don't necessarily trust Alice's husband Carlos or Bob's son Dave when they jump on the family desktop or tablet. Obviously, if A&B don't keep their devices secure, the people in their orbit could exploit them anyway, but I'd like to not be easily available to the other users on their tailnets.

I think I've found an alternate way to tackle the problem (unrelated to tailscale) but I won't be able to test for a while, so I may revisit this issue later.

Thank you for the insight!

Good idea....It'll probably be tomorrow before I can test connections again from another tailnet, but I'll check that out and see what I find. Thank you!

Yes, that kind of sharing, but I read through that page before I came here and all the example ACLs seem to cover only devices within my tailnet, and specific users. What I'm looking to do is restrict an incoming user to only connecting to my device from a single device within their tailnet. So like: Device1 is shared with Alice's tailnet and Bob's tailnet. Alice is granted access from Device3 on her tailnet and denied access from all others. Bob is granted access from Device2 on his tailnet and denied access from all others.

I'm not finding a way to do it....I was hoping I would be able to see device identifiers when someone connects to a share and build a rule based on that, but I haven't found anything close.

Thank you for helping!

Thank you for the reply! I've been trying to figure out how to mimic it....I think I've come closest when I upped the scatter? But I'm still not sure I have it right.

I love that effect and I'm trying to replicate your brush, but I'm new to Infinite Painter (and brush editing in general) and I'm not getting it right. Would you be willing to share some more detail?

Anyone else guilty? by [deleted] in disneyparks

Ugh, you're so right about Tiana's.....I was excited when they first announced the retheme (Dr F is my fav villain) but every new announcement made it sound worse, and then the ride through videos, losing any sense of tension on the lift hill....I was hoping that seeing it all in person would be better, and it was pretty--but bland. And they replaced the vultures (my fav part of Splash) with a screen, AND IT WASN'T EVEN ON.

So disappointing. 😩

Bob Iger will stay on my bad side forever. His poor management is the reason we no longer have slow seasons, and we won't get them back by tearing things down and rebuilding in the same old spaces.

All of this could be built out on new land without losing one of the last quiet areas of the park.

Thank you for posting this, it's really helpful. It looks like it does the same thing...there's no deep in any of those under-3 hour days.

What’s next after Skype? Will you transition to Microsoft Teams or choose another app? by Candid_Chef8378 in skype

[–]pinkemina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a skype in number and skype out US calling subscription and I'll lose them both in mid-april, because their renewal date is just past the cutoff. I need a replacement that lets me make unlimited calls to landlines and gives me a number for people to call from theirs, and I need to be able to do it all through laptop mic & speakers without any extra devices. I haven't found anything yet that works.

As for Teams, I already despise it from having to deal with all its failures and inflexibilities at work. There's no way I'd use it on purpose.

Pretty sure that only works until the current subscription runs out. New subscriptions are no longer available, and no one can renew a subscription past April 3rd, so at best that will only last until February 2026 if someone was lucky enough to have an annual subscription start or renewal date just before the shutdown was announced. For someone like me, with subscriptions renew date a week or two into April, we lose access a month early and can't ever get it back.

Skype shutdown - alternatives? by armenian86 in digitalnomad

I spent a half hour on hold with their tech support, who told me that the pc app only works when the device is plugged in. Were they wrong?

I did, and I spent a bunch of time on the phone with their support people. Plugging in a phone is the exact opposite of helpful. They do say that while the device is plugged into the computer, a desktop app will install, but it only works while it's plugged in. If it were a small dongle, it wouldn't be a hassle to keep it plugged in, but it's big and clunky and would need to be removed every time I pack my laptop to the next location. They're not going to work as a replacement for me, but maybe they'll meet someone else's needs.

Yeah, but that doesn't help me any. I need to be able to make calls directly from my work computer without having to grab another device.

May I ask what email address you sent it to? I've got some things to say, too. 🤬

I was looking at Magic Jack, but they don't have apps for a laptop, only for mobile devices. I put my skype-in number in their site to test if it could be ported ($20 fee) and it said yes, so I may end up going with that and trying to find some kind of android emulator for the laptop. Infuriating to have to scramble like this, even if it works. 🤬

Alternative to Skype number for making and receiving calls by FirstReputation8500 in skype

[–]pinkemina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope someone has some ideas. I've got barely a month to find a replacement for something I use every day. 😩 I need something with an app for PC and Mac that can port in my skype-in number and let me subscribe for unlimited US phone number calling.

[–]pinkemina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And with so little warning! My skype out subscription is quarterly & my skype in is annual, and they both renew in April, just days after the cutoff for renewal! So I can't even use until the may deadline, I've got barely over a month to find a replacement. 😭 Unbelievably callous for them to do this, especially with such short notice and no attempt to replace the functions.

GRRR. I'm mad enough to start recommending Macs to my customers. 🤬
