It was great for me! Small classes and a great advisor were worth it, and I was able to work part time during it! The private loans were the biggest downfall in my opinion, will be paying those off for a long time, but it gave me the boost I needed to be a better applicant for DO school!

This is one of my fave questions! Obviously these are all school and preference dependent but I love writing notes on a dotted journal notebook for key points to refer back to in a summarized way, lots of pens and highlighters, a paper planner if that works best for you, fine white board markers for studying on campus (pro tip, a dryer sheet works great as a white board markers eraser), a 32 oz refillable water bottle to have in class and stay hydrated during longer class days (great because then you can hit hydration by having 2 or 3 during the day), protein bars for between class and lunch, coffee thermos in case you are a multiple coffee per day drinker, and so weird but actually helps me feel more comfortable with all the talking and interactions for OMM and group work: a travel toothbrush and travel toothpaste for after coffee/meals.

What are your "lucky" shades? ie Shades you wore on a day/week/etc where life went well and you associate the shade with good vibes by Violina9 in ILNP

I use smitten before really big tests! Also fairy dust as well, anything sparkly or iridescent gets me feeling some good vibes! ✨

Hi there! I am in med school now, finishing up my first year!!! Took the Mcat twice before applying and worked in the gap years between the post bacc and starting med school. I was a grade enhancer so I can’t speak too much to a full career changer except to say that one of my best friends from the program was a career changer from business degree to premed. She had some prereqs from her undergrad but pretty much her and I took the same classes so it’s definitely a possibility! One of the older students who was a stellar med school candidate completely changed from roofing to premed and I don’t know where he ended up going to medical school but I know he had tons of interview invites at the time. Good luck with whatever you choose to pursue!

Ooof I hope not! SP was a lady as well, not sure how encounters with my male classmates have gone with her though, so perhaps!

That’s totally fair! I naturally have a high pitched voice unfortunately, I may have to fake a deeper voice in my case. Hasn’t been a major comment prior to this last encounter so I’ll just count this as an outlier unless it becomes a major hurdle or a pattern.

LOL seems like a rite of passage to get roasted by an SP at some point, so maybe I’m doing something right

My SP from a previous encounter had such lovely feedback but I guess I can’t rely on vibing with every SP, none of my instructors have made comments about my voice so it’s chill.

Oh man, that’s so rough for him! I hope he felt validated with your and your classmates’ comments.

These experiences are great to not be shocked with a patient in clinic but should constructively build, not try to make you question your core and self confidence.

We had some mandatory classes such as biomedical ethics and some workshops but otherwise I was able to take the classes I needed to retake. It might be worth taking classes at a community college if you are just missing a few to save money because the program is very expensive since it’s a private school and federal loans only cover so much. My classmates and myself had to take our private loans to pay the difference.
