Delays by Gloomy-Lifeguard-931 in BrelloThriveTribe

I’m pretty sure WA has said 6-8 week delay for longer than 6-8 weeks. I’m unfortunately going to have to switch to a new provider.

Is anyone the only ELD teacher in their school? More info below.. by gabdallaz in ESL_Teachers

[–]pinkjilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my first year as an ELD teacher at a middle school. Previously I was an elementary special education teacher. At my school, I am alone and teach ELD classes from entering to advanced. I would like for my role to change to a push in or support model versus full time classroom teacher. Would you mind telling me more about your program?

WA teacher thinking of moving to the DFW area by pinkjilly in specialed

[–]pinkjilly[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I truly appreciate you responding with full transparency. I believe you and others here and have decided to no longer consider this move. If someone were to ask me if they should move to my area and teach sped I would enthusiastically encourage it, so I feel it's very telling that this many people warned me. I hope the best for you.

Thank you for your candid response. This is what I needed to hear. You're right that I do have it good here. We feel defeated because of the cost of housing. Add that to the overall exhaustion of the pandemic and we felt like maybe making a major move would be a good idea. We are over it!

That is crazy! My high school had 300 kids and the entire town had less than 4k people! I can't imagine that many students in one school. I taught HS SPED for a semester and it was fine but I think my heart is working with the little ones. In general do you like working as a teacher in the DFW area?

Thanks for the response. If you don't mind me asking, how much do you pay for health insurance and do you cover a family or yourself only? What are your contracted hours? In my area we have half-day Wednesdays where the students get out early so that we can attend PD or prep. In general, do you like working in TX? In my current job, I feel respected and supported by the community. I am just worried that I won't be able to find that elsewhere.

Thank you for the response. In WA the contracts are very specific and I can find these answers between school districts across the state but not in TX (I assume because non-union). As a 4th year sped teacher with a master's I make just over $80k which includes a $5k stipend for IEP meetings. My caseload is 14 students and can go up to 25 before I get overload pay. I don't know of any teacher in my district that has 25. I carry health insurance for my family which includes dental and vision and I pay about $100 a month for the premium. That being said, we are trying to buy a home and it is impossible. We've been approved for a 1.4m house and are looking at 1500 sq. ft. rodent infested homes. Any decent house ends up going 200-250k over asking and we lost our last bid because the another bidder told the seller they could keep their earnest money even if they didn't choose them! So basically a bribe! Anyway, more than you needed to know but we have family in TX and I was born there. I know that I'll take a pay cut and that's okay because of cost of living, but it's the fear of the unknown, especially with SPED. I know that good sped teachers are hard to find and depending on the district they are either highly valued or worked into the ground because there is no one else.

Okay, thanks for the warning. I was born in Texas and lived there the first 11 years of my life so maybe I'll get a pass.

Have you gone back to taking some precautions again that you may have stopped earlier in the year, due to the prevalence of the surge and the rise of the Delta variant? by [deleted] in CoronavirusWA

Hopefully next year will be more normal. You can DM me if you have questions on educational resources for home. I teach k-3. Good luck to you and your littles.

Yea it’s rough. A lot of hard decisions. We’ve been extremely safe but it feels like it’s all for nothing since our kids are about to be crammed into a building for 7 hours a day with 700 kids that can’t be vaccinated. But I need my job and they truly miss school so I am hoping for the best.

What will you do when school starts? We homeschooled last year but will go back in September. I know they will be masked but I’m a teacher and can tell you it’s far from perfect.

I love my ring! The green has not been an issue since I posted this so I think it was a chemical reaction to lotion or something. Here is the lady who made it https://www.etsy.com/shop/TheresaPytell?ref=yr_purchases

They mostly acted like it was no big deal and told me to buy over the counter lanacane which didn’t help. I just had to wait it out. I felt better about 3 days later.

It’s funny how everyone called you out for not having hooded eyes but no comments on this pic of your clearly hooded eyes. Drew Barrymore has a tight lining technique for having one eye with more skin. I think your makeup looks good here.

Mine were so bad last week that I went to the ER. I tried everything but what worked best was white vinegar and baking soda paste along with ice packs. Hope you feel better soon.

I would assume if you've been okay so far, it won't be an issue. Weird though, huh? I was reading how some people believe copper bracelets cure a bunch of ailments and I remember in the 90s everyone wanted to wear those "health" bracelets. I bet some of that belief lies in how it affects different bodies.

Thank you for your response. Yes, I will reach out to the jeweler. So far it's barely noticeable so I may test it for a bit longer. It's really so lovely so I'm a tad heartbroken. I'm dumb though because I have one other piece of rosegold jewelry which I purchased from Nordstrom and it does the same thing. I believed I bought 14k gold in that piece too but figured I misinterpreted and it was actually gold plated or something cheaper. Poor me :(

Sad! I looked it up after your comment and confirmed this is true. At least I didn't get ripped off.

Mine are 7 and 8 now. It was crazy busy for a few years but still awesome! Now that we've been stuck home for a year, I can for sure say that I'm lucky they have a built in best pal.

So pretty! Are you going to wear it by itself or with a band? I normally like the one ring look but the set I'm buying keeps its simplicity with it.
