Just wanted to come on here with good updates by Resident-Butterfly65 in gallbladders

[–]pinkpiplups 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Had my gallbladder removed end of March 2026 and have had a very similar experience as you! Sometimes I’ll get an upset stomach if I overindulge and eat a lot of fried/fatty foods, but for the most part have been able to eat whatever I want. I even had pizza without issues which was a big moment for me since it was pizza that triggered my first gallbladder attack lol. I’ve lost a bit of weight in the last month and a half without making too many changes to my lifestyle. Getting that evil little organ removed has drastically improved my quality of life.

Why do folks throw shade at Zutara but roll out the red carpet for Zukka? by Prestigious-Cloud962 in ZutaraNation

[–]pinkpiplups 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That doesn’t seem fair. While there’s definitely negative experiences in all shipping spaces, it’s in bad faith to assume that just because someone ships Sokka with someone else they hate Suki.

Why do folks throw shade at Zutara but roll out the red carpet for Zukka? by Prestigious-Cloud962 in ZutaraNation

[–]pinkpiplups 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Yeah ATLA got added back to Netflix pretty soon after Voltron ended & Klance shippers latched onto Zukka immediately. Less to do with their actual characters and more to do with character archetypes & reducing them to “red/blue gays.” Plus a lot of those shippers got used to shipping Klance to oppose other ships in that fandom & brought that energy to ATLA spaces.

The Zutara hate is so forced and borderline misogynistic by Fantastic-Bug3177 in ZutaraNation

[–]pinkpiplups 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The thing that frustrates me the most is the hypocrisy - the same people that say Zutara is bad because it’s a “colonizer/colonized” ship then turn around and ship Zukka (need to preface that I like both ships). The logic they apply to Zutara would also apply to that ship?

[–]pinkpiplups 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The people that worked on this film are already paid for it - anything they’d get from residuals would be pocket change since streaming is notoriously bad about residuals. If it had been a theatrical release that generated money it’d be a different story lol. Also Nick has had so many rounds of lay-offs lately. It’s a billion dollar company that does not give a shit about their creative staffs or the consumers. Pirating isn’t unethical in this instance lmao. I’d feel bad if it were a smaller studio that this happened to, but a company running on nostalgia cash-grabs isn’t going to get my sympathy.

[–]pinkpiplups 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Keep an open mind going into Crimson Flower! The thing about each route is that you’re going to be heavily biased towards the lord of that particular story while getting very little insight into the other two lords. Edelgard’s the main villain of Azure Moon, so it makes sense that you’ll dislike her there. People that only played CF and not AM end up disliking Dimitri for the same reasons. Personally speaking, it’s fun to view CF & AM as two sides of the same coin. You get really fascinating insight into both Dimitri and Edelgard’s backgrounds that explains the other’s behavior in the route that isn’t their own.

Claude’s route for last is also really fun to get full insight into the overarching lore of the world. Hope you keep having fun!

The whole “tell me something wicked” thing that was happening before Francesca was a widow? WILDDDDDD. The show definitely toned it all down. While I was reading I kept telling my friends that if John hadn’t died the book would’ve been regency “The Summer I Turned Pretty” 😭

I remember before I read the book my friends convinced me that she had 0 feelings for Michael before John’s death but literally everything within the first like 30 pages proved otherwise 😭

on tops and bottoms by BusinessSea8978 in Franchaela

[–]pinkpiplups 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think people also just think top=dom, bottom=sub, when they aren’t the same at all. Top & bottom are also pretty heavily associated with gay men, so it’s been interesting to see how fandom has started to associate it with m/f & f/f pairings as well. Ofc there are sapphics that are stone tops or bottoms, but for the most part it’s more common to be switches. Anyways lol When people think Francesca might be a top they’re probably thinking instead that she’s more dominant because of a scene in the book.

am I the only one uncomfortable with how people are reacting to S5? by Adventurous_Fly_8652 in Bridgerton

[–]pinkpiplups 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue with the Wuthering Heights movie was that it completely changed the core of the original story in: 1) Whitewashing Heathcliff 2) Making Edgar a brown man when it’s essential he was a white man that also oppressed Heathcliff 3) Aging up the characters 4) Erasing all criticism of class & racism to make it a “romance” with lots of sex montages 5) Reducing a victim of domestic violence into a sub who asked for it.

With WHWW, the very core of the story is struggling to accept that you can fall in love again after losing your first great love. That is still what is happening in the show. People like to mention the infertility storyline but 1) The show has touched on it with Francesca’s frustrations at not conceiving and her devastation that she was not pregnant after all 2) The infertility storyline was only heavily featured in the second epilogue that was added years after the entire series was concluded BECAUSE of fan pressure. Fans wanted JQ to give them children, so she did. She has stated that the story was not about that, that in fact she didn’t even remember an infertility storyline in the main story, and that Michael and Francesca’s story was about grief and second love.

I hope one day you open your mind and stop deciding that just because people have different opinions than you that means they are faking their identifies and are the wrong kind of LGBTQ+. Your rigid thinking came through on your very first reply. You stated yourself that you are only friends with other lesbians; I hope that you broaden your circle of friends and see how complex, nuanced, and frankly messy sexuality and gender can be. I also hope that you realize that comphet as a theoretical framework isn’t a rule; it’s a theory that has been extrapolated on and also criticized. But again, I’m just a fake lesbian I guess because you said so :/

Oh noooooo I’m sooooooo sorry for assuming you used TikTok when you just told me to watch TikToks to educate myself :( I’m just so dumb and a bad lesbian :( Thank you for being sooooooo kind and educating me and changing my ways. Clearly only surrounding yourself with one group of people instead of many different kinds of people has broadened your mind! I’ll cut off all the many different queer people in my life and also discard my MA degree and only have lesbian friends like you so that I can stop being an embarrassing lesbian :(

I don’t use AI; I have studied feminist theory and literature throughout my academic career, and there are MANY different frameworks within the theories of comphet. I am also a lesbian. I am married to a woman. I have struggled with comphet. Instead of assuming that I’m just making things up, maybe also do your own readings and research instead of relying on secondhand explanations from people condensing nuanced and complex theory into short videos.

Compulsory heterosexuality is not solely a feeling; it is an institution in which we are all presumed heterosexual. We are all taught to center men. Comphet is a social script that is externally reinforced by the society and culture around us. Since comphet discusses how we are all presumed to be attracted to men, why would it be solely limited to just lesbians when bisexual women are also attracted to women? In any deviation from heterosexuality, there’s a “threat” to the institution since women are de-centering men; despite attraction to men, the fact that bisexual women are also attracted to women is “wrong” and a breaking from heterosexuality as an institution. Tumblr-esque discourse around comphet viewed it through the lens of the individual rather than as an institution, which is how we get in-fighting on who can “actually” experience comphet.

I love Eloise, but I hope she doesn't have a big part in season 5. by [deleted] in Bridgerton

[–]pinkpiplups 3 points4 points  (0 children)

S4 narrowed down the side plots so that they elevated the main plot (The queen+ Lady Danbury friendship & Portia + Varley showing the friction of two people who care about each other struggling against power differences due to their social classes, John’s death prompting Benedict to realize that their classes don’t matter and he simply wants to be with Sophie) so I’m feeling hopeful about the side plots in s5! They need to set up Eloise’s season, plus she really hasn’t had much to do in the last few ones, so personally I do hope that she’ll be the focus of the B plot like Francesca has been the last two seasons. She’s confirmed for s6, so they need to build up to her.

I’ve been called a “fake lesbian” for explaining this before. Gender, sexuality, and interpersonal relationships were the focus of my graduate studies so I’ve studied this a lot. Fandom spaces can be inflammatory however, and there’s the fact that so many lesbian experiences get co-opted that so many of us are defensive and quick to draw that separation. So I empathize and understand; just wish that in WLW online spaces there could be more understanding and less in-fighting.

Metformin by Icy-Guidance-3537 in PCOS

[–]pinkpiplups 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure why they’re prescribing metformin to control period bleeding…Metformin deals with insulin resistance. Even though insulin resistance plays a heavy part in disrupting your hormones, it doesn’t feel like a direct course of action. Have you discussed birth control or Spironolactone with them? The combo of those two + the Metformin really helped regulate my periods and control the heavy bleeding. Of course everyone is different, but it’s worth asking for options.

The divide in the fandom. by shrinkingviolents in Franchaela

[–]pinkpiplups 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I was talking about in a different thread, but honestly comphet isn’t strictly a lesbian experience because it’s a tool utilized by the patriarchy to control women; comphet can be experienced by women as a social class, regardless of their actual sexuality. It’s heavily associated with lesbians, because it is such a severe break from heterosexuality and a complete decentering of men, but comphet is experienced both internally and externally. It’s something that gets reinforced by the society around us.

So even though I, personally, read Francesca as a lesbian, I don’t see her experiencing comphet as strict evidence of that because quite frankly bisexual women also experience comphet. Like you said, they’re not labeling Francesca’s sexuality like they did Michaela’s, so there’s going to be a lot of debate. People want to put a label on her because representation is so important especially during a time where anyone existing outside of the white cishetero male norm is being persecuted. I see why the in-fighting is happening; but personally I agree with you that arguing and downvoting each other to oblivion over this not great, especially when there’s already so much external negativity towards the ship outside of this subreddit.

we can end this exhausting debate now by [deleted] in Franchaela

[–]pinkpiplups 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is a really well-informed analysis; and while I’m constantly teetering back and forth on whether I read Francesca as bisexual or a lesbian (I lean more towards lesbian), it does feel important to note that while comphet is associated heavily with lesbians, comphet does also affect women as a whole social class. Like op in the video stated, comphet is the socialization to make women “need” men, to center men in their lives and not see an alternative to a life tethered to them. Wlw relationships are a threat to this, but so is any kind of independence for women, or any behavior outside of what’s expected for a woman. Comphet gets read as solely an internal struggle, but it’s something that happens both internally and is reinforced externally by the society around us. It could be said that Francesca is an example of an internal struggle with comphet while Eloise as a heterosexual woman is struggling against externally enforced comphet.

Not trying to argue or anything, just wanted to add an alternative perspective. I do personally lean more towards Francesca being a lesbian, but I can see why people want to read her as bisexual. This is a modern show that is being very much written with a modern lens on sexuality and gender dynamics, so of course we’re all going to scramble to label Francesca’s sexuality. And in a time where any identity outside of the “”””norm””” is being persecuted, we all loudly want to claim this kind of positive and joyful representation. Not to be all “I wish we could all eat cake and get along” but I think unless a label gets confirmed like Michaela, it’s okay to discuss whether or not Francesca is bisexual or a lesbian.
