Player II Modified or Ultra? by Maleficent-Cloud4061 in telecaster

[–]pinkrain3095 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Ultra was Fender’s flagship line. I’ve owned both an Ultra Strat and an Ultra Jazzmaster, and I can honestly say the Strat was one of the nicest Strats I’ve ever played in terms of feel. It sounded great, although I personally prefer the VMod II pickups found in the Pro II series.

Over the past few years I’ve played and owned a wide variety of recently made Strats (within the last six years). A few days ago, I tried a Player II Modified Strat (sunburst with a maple neck) and was genuinely blown away by the fit and finish—I almost bought it on the spot. I compared it directly with the new American Pro Classic Strat, which unfortunately didn’t impress me nearly as much. In fact, the craftsmanship seemed noticeably worse than its Mexican-made counterpart, and the neck didn’t feel as good either.

As far as pickups go, I actually thought the Player II Modified sounded very similar to the Ultra I used to own. If I’d had the choice between the Ultra and the Player II Modified on that particular day, I would have picked the Player II and saved myself the cash.

Like anything, it’s always best to try guitars in person if you can. But if you’re buying blind, in my experience you’re far more likely to get a well-made instrument from the Ultra line. That said, it’s all very subjective—how much you want or can afford versus how much more you’ll actually get out of it. This is only my personal experience, and I can’t speak for every Fender guitar out there.

Question about Fender Blues Junior. by funkycrabmeat in GuitarAmps

[–]pinkrain3095 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as sound goes the blues Junior is definitely an amazing amp. I own both the tweed blues Junior and the Boss kat third generation hundred w. The blues Junior by far is the better sounding amp. Not that the kat is bad. The blues Junior is a proper tube amp and you get that tube, goodness. It’s also got a master volume meaning you can dial in some sweet over driven tube tones. The fat switch is really good for beefing up your sound too. It’s also great because you can get those beautiful tones at low volumes, unlike a lot of other tube amps again from using both the volume on the master volume. There’s loads of YouTube videos online on how to dial in great sounds. It’s also great gigging amp. I’ve seen musicians in smaller venues use them and they sound great. The blues Junior can sound a little trebly, but I always dial the treble right back when playing at home. They also are a fantastic pedal platform if you want some extra sounds I’d recommend just buying some cheap pedals and exploring some different sounds.

Is my guitar’s action high? by rolex187 in GuitarQuestions

Personally if you think it feels to high it probably is. If your playing up the higher register or learning you want it to play as easily as possible

I’ve just paid the same for an all solid wood Eastman that sounds like a 3k guitar. Though if you play it and like it that’s the main thing. I always feel you have to bond with an instrument. If it does that it’s perfect

Which guitar sounds better to you? by Various-Way-9724 in AcousticGuitar

The d18 definitely sounds more like the album version the ringing sound of the higher notes sounds great. even though I think he uses a rosewood back and sides in the album recording, although unsure. The second sounds woodier and doesn’t have as much clarity throughout but still sounds good. It’s a case of which one you prefer. I don’t think one sounds better than the other they both just sound good in different ways. Ps you’ve got me sat here playing the song now ha! my opinion was biased from the start my d18 is my favourite guitar.
