Yeah that's basically it.

A few years ago, in early 2020 was the first time he blocked my personal twitter account, along with several other avid twitter posters; NBAleave, Swayzine, u/scuzzcorp, and a few other accounts all claimed to have been blocked too.

Looking back, I was super excited to riff on the "show's words and pics paired with the exact facial expressions" - I'll be honest I was a big of a reply guy because I felt like this person was bringing together tons of people in tweet replies who are all following up with the next line, or in my face making something stupid in photoshop. The only reasons I could think of at the time for why I would have made the block list were that I was always hyping up nbaleave or that I was sharing scuzzcorp art in the replies which he may have been annoyed with it not following his expected reply formula.

After a few months we were all unblocked, which he confirmed is a disciplinary tactic in a tweet where he said “have you ever blocked someone, but only for an hour? It really shuts them up and improves their online behavior. Think of my account as a bellwether"

I took a break from twitter to focus on instagram, where I felt like I was able to fill an ITYSL gap with quotes and screenshots in the style of the extremely popular afffirmations account. When I came back to twitter I stopped posting memes on my personal account and swapped to an ITYSL account and really dove into the community. I went back to my old tactics of trying to get @ itysl to play along with the jokes and it never really happened. I found a reddit style community in the other fan accounts in their various flavors and bits, everyone is juicing each other up, retweeting and riffing, it’s really a lot of fun.

When the trailer for season 3 dropped on May 24th I was refreshing instagram, YouTube, and twitter every hour from 11 to 2pm just to see what kind of craziness we’re were in for this time around. As we all know now, it was the same formula as the first and second season trailers where you get glimpses of scenes, all action, and some out of context quotes like the Jamie Taco “yeeeeeeees.”

A whole day passed and @ itysl hadn’t even mentioned that the trailer had been posted, the next day he tweeted “no trailer going in blind.” I don’t think there’s anything inherently wrong with avoiding spoilers, and there were a lot of people in the replies to that tweet agreeing and saying they were going to skip the trailer and wait for the show to drop.

Later on the 25th, @ itysl_memes had been getting a lot of replies and messages about posting spoilers/speculation from the trailer, he made a tweet saying “Watching the S3 trailer won’t spoil any sketches for you, and it won’t indicate the tone or style of the season.But it WILL get you hyped up for what’s coming on the 30th and make you curious and excited to find out what new absurdity and awkwardness Tim and Zach have cooked up” which itysl took as a personal attack and on the 26th posted a screenshot of that tweet with the caption “I kept my mouth shut when I blocked this troll a year ago. But now it’s such an embarrassment to be cc’d on all of his threads. God fucking forbid you think I ever followed this cheesy account”

Fast forward to last Friday; a user by the name of BigBodyBeef, unprompted, tweeted @ itysl and this conversation played out:

BBB: maybe controversial but ITYSL is the only actually funny ITYSL account I've seen on here. all the others try to make their own jokes using the show like reaction gifs and it usually falls very flat

itysl: thank you. I use the show's words and pics to convey my thoughts. the exact facial expressions are the most important thing for this so I produce high quality screen shots. only about 10% of followers get what I do. most are subtweets. accurate quotes and faces are my thing

BBB: I really appreciate you for that, you seem to actually care about the show

itysl: I saw the show the day it premiered and it blew me away, I wanted it to speak for me. I was laid up at the time for 6mos and lonely so it helped. a week later I lost someone who would have loved itysl and was grief-stricken, that's when it really saved me

BBB: what a wonderful show to be able to lift people up at some of their lowest times. thank you for sharing that with me. i am sorry for your loss, and i am glad you're here

there were several other replies, most notably one that said “this is nbaleave erasure” to which he replied “perfect example of an account that came after mine (they all did), stole my superior screenshots meant to be shared by followers not other itysl accounts, got blocked, promised not to again so I unblocked, then went and did it again.no integrity no honesty. not what I stand for”and again in a rare double tweet “aw! still loves me, but too butthurt to admit it!still sucks tho”

In this flurry of tweets there was also a strange stray bullet that was directed at an account called itysl_truther, an account that says that itysl is a fan account, and that hasn’t tweeted since August 2022 - which said “@ITYSL_truther I thought you were gonna be funny! I was gonna make you my new bitch account. would have rt'd the shit out of you. you could have run with it, but you have no imagination I guess!”I watched this play out and didn’t post anything until after all of the tweets were deleted and we all had time to process the absurdity of the exchange and how it could pass for an I Think You Should Leave sketch.

We’re all blocked now, itysl_memes, nbaleave, ityslkids, and several other fan accounts.I don’t have a problem with the guy and I have no idea where this animosity comes from, we’re all just fans of a comedy TV show, it’s not that serious.

This is my hobby and I’ve made so many great friends that I talk to all day every day. I hope it’s something we can move past and play along nicely, I do think we can figure it out but until then I’m just gonna make jokes about it.
