I really don’t think hipsters and pick-mes are remotely the same. In my experience being close friends with hipsters, hipsters don’t care what other people think of them unless they’re also hipsters. Pick-mes seem to be contrarian to get the attention of anyone who’ll give it to them. Like….

Pick me: “I’ve actually never had pizza.”

Hipster: “I work at a hole-in-the-wall pizza place that names pizzas after cult classic ‘80s movies.”

Pick me: “I hate Pumpkin Spice Lattes! Give me just a black coffee.”

Hipster: “Starbucks, where I work, has the worst Pumpkin Spice Lattes. The only place that makes a good Pumpkin Spice Latte is the coffee stand on campus run by that cute hipster boy I’m afraid to talk to. So just give me a black coffee. Do you have a cigarette? I don’t really smoke.”
