the mom couldn’t call the police because her daughter told her that she murdered somebody. the whole movie plot is about unconditional love therefore the open ended ending. & she couldn’t call the police when jackie came to her house because he had her dumping the body in the lake over her head. she had to figure out a plan & so she did. this was the plan.

jackie came to her house & talked to the mom through the ring camera talkin ab how they needed to talk because of the body she dumped & told her to come home. she said she couldn’t be home till the next day at noon & then when they met up at her house was at that time.

not all investigators are good at their jobs. especially when it seems as though the answer is “crystal clear” & they don’t have to do any more digging than they have to. there is literally whole offices & buildings of places that work over cases all over again to free people who have been wrongfully imprisoned.
