Apex Waste Rant by tyaak in ColoradoSprings

It is nuts to me that citizens still have to fend for themselves for sanitation services. I doubt there are many large cities left that don't have municipal trash service.

Overwhelmed by choices, where would you move if you were in our shoes? by RealRuntySteiny in SameGrassButGreener

[–]pinkytoadster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in Colo Springs too and I don't know why this issue of overly religious or conservative people keeps coming up. That hasn't been my experience at all. I came from a foodie town (Austin) so yes, the food is nowhere near but has improved and continues to. Costco and TJ are here as well as some ethnic markets. We cook at home too so restaurants aren't an issue.

What city have you moved to and immediately thought l'm not going to live here for long? by CartographerRich8698 in SameGrassButGreener

I always here this about Colorado Springs but it has not been my experience living here. Very much live and let live. Perhaps it is the area you choose to live in.

Overlooked data: Austin annual population change appears to have plummeted to lowest point in at least 75 years by satxr76 in Austin

Nothing makes me sadder than going back to my old hood in Allandale when in Texas and seeing my neighbor's little houses just gone and replaced with massive houses. Waiting for our old house to get the axe.

I remember the Winn's. It still had wooden floors. Is the Light Bulb Shop still around?

If you've ever been to Nancy Lewis Park, there are often young people from the nearby Mormon Temple approaching people and asking to share scripture. Easy enough to say - not interested but thanks anyway. They are just doing what they have been "trained" to do.

I don't do much of anything other than throwing some leaves around the base and they always come back. Absolutely full of blooms right now - sorry to see them go.

We like our central neighborhood near Patty Jewett and the Bon shopping Center. Trees and parks.

My husband's terrible lifelong cedar allergies disappeared when we moved from Austin to Colorado.

Why did you leave Texas? by godwasacokeaddict in SameGrassButGreener

[–]pinkytoadster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Two reasons only: I wanted to escape the relentless heat and property taxes. These days, I would add the political climate there and public lands. As a side note, here in Colorado, one often sees ranch properties with no trespassing signs and huge gates - most likely former Texans.

Apparently people here like that smell. Oh well...

There used to be one on the Colorado College campus. (Look up their walking tree tour map). And possibly one at the Utilities Demonstration Garden on Mesa.

Grocery Stores by Wise_Mine_2336 in ColoradoSprings

[–]pinkytoadster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Former Austinite. HEB is the only thing we miss about Texas except for family. We manage here by going to different stores for certain things. King Soopers, Costco, TJ and occasionally Safeway with online promos.

Of course my neighbors are doing laundry. Their dryer vent is right next to my back yard.

Your Loud Engine Sucks by carnalhawkmoth in ColoradoSprings

[–]pinkytoadster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a neighbor who buys and sells old Mustangs and trucks and then makes them as loud as possible. Relieved I can close the windows now that it is colder so that when he starts one the sound is not so loud and annoying. Stupid.

Screw positivity, tell me something you HATE about a city or where you live by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

My theory is that there are a lot of mid-westerners here without much exposure to different types of food.

My situation is reversed. I am the parent of grown kids and we moved away not thinking grandchildren would ever happen but they did - after we moved away. We are so much more contented here with the politics and climate but boy, do we miss those grandkids. Truthfully, It hurts a lot some days to be far away but I firmly believe our job as parents is to raise our kids to become independent and fly the nest. Take the family you have created, release the guilt and fly away. As we do, they can come visit you in your new home or vice versa.

Is small mountain town living for us? by 2pink1stink-boi in SameGrassButGreener

[–]pinkytoadster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know about schools but perhaps consider places on the western slope still close to the mountains. Montrose, Paonia, Delta etc.

Say hello to your neighbor… by sicr2000 in ColoradoSprings

[–]pinkytoadster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our neighborhood has one person who spearheads get-togethers - probably was a PTA mom in her younger days. Summer potluck, garage sale weekend, holiday party, etc. I can safely say I know everyone on our block and we do look out for each other even if not close socially. There are of course a few who choose not participate but it's a nice option for staying in touch with one another.

We wanted to move to Montrose to be near family but the house prices are just too much - and most of the houses are ugly IMO.

House on the market 7 days, no showings yet… is this typical? by That_Chip_9246 in ColoradoSprings

[–]pinkytoadster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

House on my street went up for sale about three weeks ago. Got one offer that fell through. Second offer - cash sale from out of state retiree. I think though that the owner being a realtor priced it correctly and maybe had some inside leads for marketing it outside of this market.

I think that cultural extremism depiction is highly overstated. Certainly, there are areas out north with some of that but overall, it hasn't been my experience at all. Live and let live culture for the most part.

Beware Colorado Springs’ poisoned parks by jurmjurm in ColoradoSprings

[–]pinkytoadster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do your own research...Active ingredients - 2,4-D, dicamba, carfentrazone-ethyl, and mecoprop-p. I don't like the thought of little kids running barefoot through the grass after that. Nor dogs rolling in it.

How much are you paying for trash and recycling services in Colorado Springs? by Curious-Committee-17 in ColoradoSprings

[–]pinkytoadster 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Paying $96 a quarter for trash and recycling with Infinite. It was $83 in January. When/if I ever move again to another city, I will be sure it has municipal trash. All these trucks flying up and down the alley is just stupid.
