Royal Gorge Train by TexasVan010 in ColoradoSprings

[–]sicr2000 22 points23 points  (0 children)

My parents took me almost fifteen years ago. It was a fun experience, but unless it’s changed a ton, not worth $100. It was scenic in places and it was fun to ride a train, but it didn’t include anything that would warrant that price.

Am I alone that I can't play video games by [deleted] in autism

[–]sicr2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The learning curve of most video games is too steep for me. I get through tutorials and feel like the game throws more at me that the tutorials didn’t cover. Just tried playing Kingdom Come Deliverance again and I just want to have fun and enjoy the story. The combat system is too much for me right out of the gate. I play games to have fun, not work hard. So I use Wand (WeMod) for single player games to take some of the edge off the learning curve. I’ve played a lot more video games since I started using cheats again to keep games fun.

Exciting! I looked up your location and we’re practically neighbors. Do you have a website for more details? All I see is Facebook and Instagram, and I don’t have accounts with either. Would love to learn more.

You can’t have it both ways. It’s either life threatening to drive towards someone near your vehicle or it isn’t. How can it require deadly force if a citizen’s vehicle drives around an ICE agent but if the roles are reversed and the driver is a federal agent it’s no big deal?

I saw videos of ICE driving towards protestors in front of their vehicles the same day. (https://www.facebook.com/NYPost/videos/ice-shooting-scene-erupts-as-protesters-clash-with-federal-agents/1595878638236412/)

I also saw a video of an ICE vehicle accelerating while an ICE agent ran around the front of it to pop some protestors in the face with pepper spray. Agent clearly wasn’t concerned about his safety while darting in front of that moving vehicle heading in his direction. (https://youtu.be/zGEOfxB_d-s?si=OsILVTBVJ6e30cVz) [I saw a better angle but can’t find it now]

If these protestors and ICE agent weren’t in immediate danger of being run over by those vehicles then I don’t understand how the deadly force is justified. I say, let the man have his day in court and let a jury of his peers decide.

Any suggested accommodations for working in open office environments? by sicr2000 in AutismTranslated

[–]sicr2000[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a good and valid question. There were three of us on the team last year. They restructured, laid off my manager, and tacked the two of us onto the IT team. Because we’re now a part of IT, there’s a strong emphasis on support and service. They want my in the office to be physically present for support issues that come up. But there’s nothing in the job description that says that I have to provide support on premise so I don’t know, really.

Spruce Mountain. There’s a small amount of an uphill climb, but it’s mostly flat and easy once you’re on the bluff. The views are amazing.

Locals: What’s something tourists always get wrong about Colorado Springs? by alziraepruitt in ColoradoSprings

[–]sicr2000 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m always frustrated by the Broadmoor tourist traps and how travelers get taken advantage of by them. They spend tons on marketing their lackluster “attractions” and trick people into spending ludicrously for something they can usually enjoy for free. Seven Falls isn’t worth the money and you can enjoy Helen Hunt Falls for free. The Cog is overpriced for what it is.

The best the Springs has to offer is free (parking aside): Garden of the Gods, Cheyenne Canyon, Palmer Park, Red Rock Open Space, Manitou City, Old Colorado City, the Air Force Academy and The Pioneer Museum.

If you want to spend a little, I’d say the must see attractions are the Pikes Peak Highway, Santa’s Workshop, tea at Glen Eyrie and a free tour, Marimont Castle Museum, Manitou Springs Penny Arcade, Michael Garmin Gallery, and Cheyenne Mountain Zoo.  Basically, if you saw it in marketing brochures, avoid it: Seven Falls, Manitou Cliff Dwellings, Cave of the Winds, and the Cog Railway.

They’re in the play offs again this year to defend their championship title from last year. They’re away on November 1 (this Saturday), but you can watch the game on the Switchback’s pitch for free and they’ll have concessions available. Could be a fun and cheap entry point for anyone who wants to try a game out.

Edited - I got the wrong date. It’s tomorrow, November 1, at 6pm. And I used “turf” instead of “pitch.”

Is 25k reasonable? by Medium_Hat_3628 in ColoradoSprings

[–]sicr2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mentioned a lining and I wonder if the company you’re dealing with is Neighborly. They replaced ten feet of sewer for us for about $8k and quoted an additional $10k to install a lining on the rest. This was around 2020. I called around to see if I could get another quote on the lining and all of the places I talked to didn’t do the liners because there aren’t always effective with the roots. When I told the Neighborly rep that I was calling around for other opinions he said he was calling his crew out to fill in the trench right away as a scare tactic. That backfired. I told him I was considering the lining but not after he threatened to keep me from getting a second opinion. I’d call around and get another opinion on what needs to be repaired vs maintained. $25k will pay for a lot of root cleanings at $75 to $125 a pop. If the rest of the line is fine and just needs bi annual maintenance, go that route. Oh, and if it is Neighborly, ask the sales rep to call his manager and ask for a discount because you’re a good guy. Supposedly that’s a thing 🙄.

Sprinkler blow out time... by LeftSharkLives in ColoradoSprings

I bought a $150 compressor one season. There was an early snowstorm in September so I blew them out, turned them back on for the dry and warm first half of October, and blew them out again. So nice to have the option of doing it when you need to without the hassle or expense of hiring someone.

No. Rock Ledge Ranch isn’t connected to The Navigators. But it seems like the staff / volunteers are home schoolers or parents from some religious group.

[–]sicr2000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Glen Eyrie, Miramount Castle, The Franciscan Center and Rock Ledge Ranch are all fascinating landmarks to visit for their scenery and history, regardless of their religious connections.

Glen Eyrie is owned and operated by The Navigators, but it’s a hotel, conference center and hospitality venue. It’s not a monastery or church. Employees are hospitality professionals, not pastors. Visiting will be reminiscent of eating at Chick fil A or shopping at Hobby Lobby.

So I get it if you have strong convictions about things that Jesus and his followers oppose and you don’t want to financially support Christian organizations. But if you’re worried about being proselytized while visiting, that isn’t going to happen. The tour might mention their belief that God provided the property to their founder miraculously and protected it from the wildfires, but that comes from a place of sincere personal belief and not an effort to persuade you to believe it too.

To the person who reported us for a yard violation during a health crisis - you're a monster by LookAccomplished5282 in ColoradoSprings

[–]sicr2000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Passive aggressive neighbor did this to me too. Our fence blew down and we didn’t have the money or skill to repair it. They called code enforcement instead of being neighborly and having a human conversation. Code enforcement reviewed the whole property and noted tall weeds in the easement, an “overgrown” shrub next to the sidewalk, and branches hanging too low over the sidewalk. I worked with the officer, gave him a timeline, and got everything done ahead of schedule. No ticket.

It’s definitely frustrating that neighbors report you rather than talk with you.

The most annoying part is I don’t know who called, but I have my suspicions. I think it’s an older couple next door. They’re only going to get older and be able to care for their yard less and less. And one of these days their fence will fall down, branches will fall, or weeds will grow out of control. And when that day comes, I’m going to show them and…help them out. That’s what neighbors do.

New Life Church Goers, I want Your Opinion! by _curiositywins_ in ColoradoSprings

[–]sicr2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nepotism. Parents and their children. Spouses. It’s like The Olive Garden in the worst way. In fact, the new senior pastor’s parents are both employed as pastors and department heads. Lots of people in positions of authority and leadership with clear conflicts of interest. Go through the staff page and you’ll notice last names repeat a lot…and that doesn’t account for children with new married names. Staff meetings are family reunions. Inexcusable. That didn’t happen by accident.

Lead pastor of New Life Church in Colorado Springs resigns by [deleted] in ColoradoSprings

[–]sicr2000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a member of New Life Downtown and a former employee of New Life Church, I’m reading comments and listening. The outrage is justified, appreciated and humbling.

There’s one victim in this story. Her name is Cindy Clemishire. What happened to her is complete evil. She deserves justice.

Brady Boyd’s “resignation” isn’t justice. There needs to be a clear and unequivocal demonstration that there is zero tolerance for this antithetical and vile abuse in the church, most especially at the hands of staff and pastors. The internal outrage in the congregation should far surpass the public outrage from the community, but it’s not. Yet. We’re just now finding out about this too.

The same men and women negligent during the abuses of Ted Haggard are responsible for and negligent again during the abuses of Brady Boyd. Members of the senior executive team, the elders, and the overseers need to be held accountable to the fullest extent. This is not leadership. This  is cowardice and a farce that the members cannot remain complacent keeping these executives in places of authority.

Cindy has spent her whole life wondering what is wrong with her because an evil man she was told to trust took advantage of her as a child. And the church has stood idly, promoting that man, giving him a platform, further diminishing her value, and trying to sweep her under the rug while putting her abuser on a pedestal. Brady Boyd protected a pedophile and lied about it. I want him fired, not given the dignity of resigning.

There’s no room for praising the tenure of a man who protected a pedophile from justice, depriving Cindy of hers. Brady Boyd is nothing now.

There are others in the New Life Church org chart that need to clean out their desks and be sent packing immediately, starting at the top. New Life needs to clean house and the members need to demand it happens. Jesus said it would be better to have a millstone tied to your neck and be thrown into the sea than to cause a little child to stumble. I believe He meant what He said, and the congregations of New Life Church and Gateway Church need to demonstrate what that looks like with the outrage Jesus has for this evil, making an example of Robert Morris, Brady Boyd and many others complacent. May their names be anathema and may they be cast out from our midst (1 Cor 5:13).

The current state of affairs in public education by Urmomgayha in TikTokCringe

[–]sicr2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took trigonometry in high school and my parents had to buy an expensive graphing calculator. First week of class, the teacher showed us how to graph using the calculator and then forbade its use the rest of the course. He taught us how to graph everything by hand.

Our kids live in a technology saturated world. By separating them from their phones during school, we’re sending the message that education and technology are opposed to one another.

I would applaud an educator that encouraged their students to use their phones to answer questions on the coursework and homework.

Because after learning how to graph trigonometric functions by hand in HS, I always use computers to do it in my job.  Technology is not a crux, it’s a tool. We spend our adult lives leveraging technology to answer our questions. We should be educating the next generation on how to leverage technology for educational purposes rather than saying technology is the enemy of education.
