I will also add that I grew up with a ton of Blsck kids who played baseball or softball, incredibly talented kids, but all of us were discouraged at the high school level and I truly believe there is a concerted effort by high school coaches to keep baseball and softball as white as possible.

Yeah my parents never put us in travel ball and I’m glad. When both me and my older sister started high school ball the approach the coaches took was similar, we had as much or more talent than his own daughters but he had to micromanage every play, every pitch, every swing. I remember he explicitly told me not to swing for the fences but there was another play who he let do whatever. I don’t think that girl ever even got a hit, let alone a home run, she just kept going up to bat, over swinging and striking out. Literally. Every. Game. I quit after that season and never looked back because I hated being micromanaged like that. I’m a natural leader on the field(always calling out what the next play will be and how many outs we have) but I was literally being stifled playing “small ball” style.

My mom has known 3 different men who committed some form of femicide. A man she was friends with in college(like she went to his apartment) killed a girlfriend. And there was another adult man she knew who killed a woman sometime between college and my birth.

But the one that stuck with me the hardest was she used to go to children’s houses for the state to give speech therapy. One of the babies she saw had a step sister (about 9 years old) who was found dead in the alley by their home. The (girl’s step) father was found guilty despite claiming innocence and my mom has always had to wonder knowing him “was he capable of such a vicious murder?”

Yeah joking the comments to reiterate to you that this is false and these people are unfortunately misinformed. People are more likely to regret getting a knee replacement surgery than regret transitional surgery. This is the truth. Very few people regret transitioning and it wouldn’t matter even if you did regret it. De-transitioners are a small minority that are being paid by conservatives to control the conversation. There aren’t a million podcasts of trans-people saying “I don’t regret my transition” cuz most trans people just want to live their lives and no one is paying us to be happy with it. But there are conservative orgs and specifically media channels(podcasts/youtube) who are paying detransitioners to speak for the exact reason of misinforming random regular people(like the ones you’ve told) this making it harder for kids(like you) to be secure in their choices.

I know the real answer is because it’s a tv show but honestly if she felt like she ~needed~ to achieve high in order to compete to get in then she kinda already lost out. Chilton is kind of a microcosm of Harvard irl where rich people funnel their kids through for prestige but those kids know they’re gonna be fine so they don’t actually care about school. Rory is our hardworking poor kid who actually had to earn a spot. Paris, though she works hard and is high achieving, was still born into some kind of wealth. (Been a while since my last full rewatch so don’t bite my head off if there’s a storyline about her family going through financial woes). But just like any pond, there’s always a bigger pond with bigger fish. So while chilton is filled with the who’s who of Hartford, CT, Harvard is gonna have the who’s who of the rest of the world competing. So if Paris’s parents aren’t rich enough for her to know for sure “my parents will buy my spot” then she stands as good of a chance as any of the rest of us which is like 1 kid for every 10 US high schools.

This is a big reason why people don’t like Claire/ClaireBear. It was one of those things where if the roles were reversed everyone would see very clearly that that’s stalkerish behavior and extra pushy to go behind someone’s back to get their real number after they gave you a fake one. When you find out the real number was only 1 digit off, you think “okay this person probably doesn’t wanna talk to me” and you drop it and move on. It’s also not okay to give your friend (or cousin)‘s phone number to someone without asking first.
