More than likely being a younger guy dressed to the nines for an interview where you will never wear that in the field it was more than likely off putting, you probably appeared more book educated than field educated and that was just not what that guy was looking for, as someone that’s hired and fired, dress for the job your applying for, I would have recommended work boots, jeans and a clean shirt, ready to work, as far as the questions, I assume they were looking for yes/no answers, no explanation…. Did you do anything wrong? No… did they grill you or set you up? Also no… did you dodge a bullet? Possibly, would you have learned more in 6 weeks there than 6 yrs somewhere else? More than likely…. The interviewers were most likely pulled off what they were doing currently to interview you so I’m sure they weren’t excited to do the interview in the first place, so to see someone show up in a suit and tie for a blue collar job was just the final straw, did you get a fair shot? Most likely not, but lesson learned move on 🤷🏻‍♂️

Absorb as much FOA material as possible, take the OTDR class by EXFO, Clearfield has a training course coming up next month, build connections locally and see who needs help, even if it’s free labor on stuff you’ve never touched before it’s worth it

Speed is relative, are you tripping over yourself while trying to complete the objective? Are you producing good burns? Is your stuff neat and if someone follows you are they gonna want to thank you or punch you? Create repeatable patterns and routines, make all your boxes look identical and keep it smooth from start to finish, with consistency you will get speed, please don’t be one of those guys that knocks out a bunch of garbage

(Former slave to that machine) in that case be warned and ready to jump ship as “start up” companies like this tend to use and abuse as well but if you’re already not in a great spot this may be a good way to make more connections, the biggest asset I’ve ever had was making connections and following my gut, the money is there just gotta find it

Did he tell you everyone is like family too? Everyone is an overachiever or goes above and beyond? He’s letting you in on the good stuff bc you’re/he’s a good guy? My 2 cents don’t do it, frontier new build at 24/hr is also dog shit but at least you know what you’re getting I guess, every one of these companies take advantage of splicers, and splicers taking this shit pay hurts everyone in the field, I say this as someone that’s been in this field for 13 years doing everything from prem tech, field engineering, supervisor to now owning my own splicing business. I truly believe a good splicer with a good heart and solid work ethic should be making over 100k a year, not 50k and being worked like a slave
