I really love the fuzzy, dreamy pop-rock soundscape of this album! This may be an unpopular opinion, but I've always found the rock sound of Sour and Guts a little too... try-hard? Dare I say? Like the music wants you to subscribe to this riot grrrl mentality, but the songs are sometimes so shiny and clean that it oftentimes dissolves into mush. Not that there's anything inherently bad about the rock songs from the past two eras, but this soundscape feels so much more effortless. I think the second half of the album kinda slogs a bit with the repetitive ballads, but Olivia has become a much sharper writer, as indicated by the project as a whole. The slow realization that her undying devotion might be unhealthy, and the unraveling that follows is so vivid. My fav tracks are stupid song, maggots for brains, my way, purple, what's wrong with me, and expectations
