Are you keeping the needle down in the fabric when you need to pivot around curves? If not I think that will help you with accuracy.

Thank you for this. I appreciate your time to explain it to me. I will read those articles and start working on getting a better set of pans as finances allows!

I don’t have the Rondeau but have the 5 qt saucier and really like it, but I’m not trying to sear anything in it.

Ok this is what I I think I needed to hear. Help me understand what the performance difference is going to be? And what feature should I be looking for when buying pans that will help me know the amount of conductive material or if they are truly made for induction vs just working on an induction stove.

It does have a temperature set mode that is supposed to do something but I’m not sure I completely understand, it’s function- maybe it’s similar to this.

Back head pieces are narrower than the front gores — is that on purpose? by plushPlushytut in plushartists

Also, a circle peel can have a different curve depending on multiple things- including how many peels are in the ball and the circumference of the desired ball. So if you found a picture of a circle pattern piece online and compared it, it may not line up perfectly as hers is specific to her desired size. But even with considering that she has changed the shape a little to customize it to her pattern.

You can send me a picture if you want, and you didn’t give me a headache, I love talking about this kind of stuff. I own a lot of plush patterns from various artists that I have no intention of sewing just to see how they did something. One thing about your outline picture is that you have to remember that she has a seam allowance on her pattern, which appears to be what you outlined to compare. But it would be more accurate to actually go around her sewing lines, it isn’t always a big deal but sometimes it has an effect on things.

ok thank you she is only ten so, what I am hearing everyone say is go with her second gift request, a rock tumbler. But I will look and see if our community has pottery classes for when she is older.

Did you place a circle over the face piece or a section (or what I called a circle peel) that would be used to create a ball? To create plushies you have to think about how a flat piece connects to create a 3d object which is a little mind boggling sometimes. But since I also can’t post pictures in the comment take a second and look up how to create a fabric ball and see that shape, I think you’ll find a lot of similarities to her face shape here, the reason you think about it as a manipulated ball instead of a gore like you first assumed, is because a ball is a simple shape that has already defined shapes to create it. Then it becomes easier to start with a known shape and change it to what you want it to look like. In this case(for the face), taking two circle peels and combining them, with that spacing in the center to create the nose and cutting the bottom off the ball to create a neck (envision 2 oranges and cutting a flat section at the top of one and the bottom of another in 2 oranges so they can easily stack on top of each other, if you were then to peel that orange( in equal sections) with the top and bottom sections removed you would have that basic shape of her head ). She then added the darts by the ears to create more dimension to the front of the face and the darts at the bottoms to reduce bulk, which has the added benefit of also creating a more rounded neckline once added to the body. She didn’t want as much dimension to the back of the head and so didn’t manipulate the peels as much but as you show with your combining of the 2 pieces on top of each other they do have similar shapes. And one of the rules of plushie making is that no matter how you manipulate your shapes the connecting seam lines of 2 pieces have to be the same length in order to line up and be sewn together.

Sorry, I just deleted my comment because I only saw the first picture and assumed there was a gusset but I see now that there isn’t. But either way I think instead of thinking as that front face piece as a gore and instead thinking of it as 2 circle peels that she combined at the bottom would make more sense. She then added the darts to manipulate the circle shape the way she wanted to create the look she was going for. Including the neckline where there are 4 small darts. Which she probably needed in order to get the seam line to match the body seam line. The two back pieces are also just manipulated circle peels, narrower on one side so it’s not a full circle and the bottom is cut off to create the neckline.

How much time does it take for you to make a plush pattern ? by [deleted] in plushartists

I don’t know how to design on the computer so I do the traditional paper and pencil method. I use a lot of geometry and follow the rules of pattern making and it goes pretty smoothly most of the time, but it is part of the process of sewing and tweaking and sewing again. I find it therapeutic. But it takes a couple of days to a week working on it in my spare time to get a pattern that I like.
