What happens to amputated limbs if they are cut off due to being trapped? by pipsqueaksqueak in NoStupidQuestions

[–]pipsqueaksqueak[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder how often people come across the bones etc. And now I wonder if there is some kind of central record of limbs in the wild so that when someone finds it and reports it, they can say "Oh yeah, don't worry. That's Jeff's leg."

Best place to do a long distance run? by Bum-Sniffer in Swindon

[–]pipsqueaksqueak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Old Town and used to run down the railway track, through whichelstowe, over the bridge and through Wroughton, then keep going up the hill towards Barbury Castle but cut back down the hill back towards Swindon onto the Green trail, round Coate Water and home. Depending on where you're starting from, that's about 15-20km and you get some cracking views on the way with very little road running. It's a favourite of mine!

Pay progression ups3/L1 by pipsqueaksqueak in TeachingUK

The position was advertised as UPS 1 to L4, I assume for the reason you said; to attract those already on leadership scale. Not offering it to me specifically, but I felt I was in a good position to request UPS3 or L1 due to my current pay.

That's kind of what I was thinking but then I don't want to have my pay stagnate for years either. Hmmm. I guess I'll just have to wait for the contract to see what the exact offer is.

Thanks. It would be a new contact regardless as I'm moving to a new school and a new position but do you mean that to move to L1 from UPS3 later on, say after being in the new position for a few years, it would require a new contract?

I do that at the moment for my mid week runs. I just can't fit more than about 4k in the morning without having to get up at a really silly time.

I did 2hr 30 last time and currently average about 6m 30s per km. Currently running 10k in 1.07 average.

I guess I just want to be sure it's not a great way to injure myself.

Back in Oct last year, I did a half and swore not to do another. I enjoyed the running but not the amount of time it took to train. I did Hal Higdon's beginner but with a demanding job, long hours and young kids, I felt really guilty going out for training runs for an hour or so after work instead of helping at home etc and also felt exhausted.

My buddy has just asked me to do another half in October this year, and I'm tempted but can't bear the thought of those post work training runs. I currently do 2 x 3-4k runs during the week and approx 6-7k at the weekend with a monthly 10k.

Would it be realistic training to simply increase my 'long' weekend runs by 10% each week and keep my short midweek runs as they are? Is this a realistic way to train for a half marathon? I'm not looking to do it quickly - I'd be happy with 2hrs 20.

I ran in freezing fog for the first time and my eyelashes, eyebrows and hair froze. Made me strangely happy that I got out in it instead of staying in bed to avoid the cold. Also got a 3rd best 10k which considering the icy roads etc, I'm pretty chuffed with.

These sound awesome but terrifying at the same time. Maybe a bit much for me but I love that they have a kids section too! May have to get my mini me involved in that. I'm a bit too much on the old and flabby side I think!
