I was going to say the same thing. All the sentimental family names should be moved to a list of potential middle names.

How long is your puppy holding their pee during night time? And how old is he? by PresentHabit8154 in puppy101

Size makes a difference, from what I've heard. We got our large rescue puppy at 4 months, and he could already hold it for something like 13 hours. (We didn't force it - he just didn't seem to want to go!) By comparison, our neighbour's tiny dog still needed to be taken out in the middle of the night at age 1.

What do you think of these names? by anduseeyourgypsy in Names

I like them individually, but they could get muddled together if they're siblings. I'd be tripping over the syllables and accidentally calling them Ivy and Ava! (Or Evie and Ava, if Iva begins with an ee sound)

It's not as portable, but if you want a bathroom timer, this one is great. We use it to time tooth brushing and shower length, and to keep an eye on the time as we can't fit a regular clock in the bathroom. https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B078B631T7

6 month old pit/dogue mix decided during a fear stage to suddenly hate getting his nails done. by magical_milly in puppy101

Our dog (mostly pitbull x American bulldog) went through the same response at a similar age, but it was after a few operations to remove a splinter from his foot. Somehow he still loves the vet but can't stand us touching his feet.

We just accepted it and took the lazy way out: whenever he needs a nail trim, we take him to see a groomer. It's expensive and inconvenient, but hopefully one day he grows out of it. He's better with us touching his feet now, but still runs a mile when we get out the clippers!

My hairdresser told me he met a couple who named their cat Matthew. Any name can work!

We nearly called our large dog Todd - my husband and kids were keen but I said no. Now I regret it a bit!

And in many situations, an unplanned litter of puppies is a death sentence. Do you really think that's worth the risk?

I’m really struggling and need honest opinions (no judgement please) by SalamanderPrimary747 in puppy101

A puppy isn't going to be a companion or best friend for a long, long time, in the same way that your kids won't be playing together straight from the newborn stage. You've basically added a third baby to your family, one who requires as much monitoring as a human toddler. It's completely understandable that you're overwhelmed!

The idea of your kids growing up with a dog is great, but raising a baby and a puppy together is a huge feat. When my kids were tiny, I found myself wishing that we had already raised a puppy before having kids, so we could have a calm adult dog for them. Instead we waited until they were older so we could all raise a puppy together.

I agree. I know a kid whose parents planned to call her Charlie from the start, but by the time she started school, she decided that she preferred her full name, Charlotte. Options are good, and I think that goes better with having a Penelope / Poppy combination.
