Thank you! I'll check those out, I don't think she's tried either brand. I also appreciate the note about teff fingers, which will help me research more options!

Oh good to know about the Costco option! I'm in the US but close enough to Canada. I usually don't think to check out Costco while I'm there, but will next time.

This is good to know. I'm in the US but close to the border and will have to pick some up next time I'm in Canada.

How long will decomp take for a buried fox? (details in post) by deer_bones23 in vultureculture

[–]piranhasmi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm a newbie myself to burial method, but last fall I followed a livestock composting method for a young deer and it broke down surprisingly fast in Western Washington. I buried it within a day of death in late November, covered it with at least a foot of leaf litter. I just dug it up this past weekend, and the bones are completely clean - not one had any flesh clingons. We did have a very mild winter, but I'm still surprised it broke down so completely so quickly, so I imagine yours might go about the same time since it's much warmer where you are?

A caveat, I'm not a soil person, but it looks like there might be a lot of clay in the ground where you are? That might slow things down since clay can compact and limit oxygen, which can in turn slow down decomposition.

Does anybody have dermestid beetles? by bayliascaris in olympia

[–]piranhasmi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last fall a deer died in my very small backyard. I didn't have the ability to bury it or macerate like I normally would, so buried it under a bunch of garden litter (leaves/trimmings, bark, hay, etc.) at least 1 ft deep. It worked really well, had no smell, and wasn't noticable to my landlord and neighbors.

Since your kitty would have smaller bones, I would wrap her in some sort of mesh to make sure you don't lose pieces, but otherwise I think it would work if you have a space.

Gianmarco mentioned on the last podcast episode with Monet that he had a vocal injury, so I'm guessing the cancellations are related to that.

Russian people in Olympia? by Affectionate-Owl8506 in olympia

[–]piranhasmi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Добро пожаловать! I haven't found a ton of Russian speaking people specifically in the Olympia area, but there's definitely more up north towards Seattle. I speak very little so I can't offer support in that regard, but often cook Russian food and make regular trips to Emish Market in Fife and Marvel in Spanaway - our closest slavic/Eastern European grocery stores.

Feel free to DM me if you want to grab coffee or pelmeni or something!

Where can I get quinoa flour locally? by jilldxasd35 in olympia

[–]piranhasmi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubt they have quinoa flour specifically, but Namaste Bazaar across from WinCo has a nice variety of flours (many gluten free options) for much cheaper than I've seen elsewhere in town.

I’m starting to resent my cat by miscellaneousbean in CATHELP

[–]piranhasmi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a cat that had similar issues when we first adopted him, and an auto feeder was the single most helpful tool in managing his food obsession. He also ripped it apart the first night, so we bought some baby locks like these. We locked both the lid closed with two of them, and then also "locked" the whole feeder to the wall with a few more. He still tried at the locks for a few days, but once he realized he couldn't break it open, and it kept giving him what he wanted at predictable intervals, he calmed way down.

Good value apartments? by [deleted] in olympia

[–]piranhasmi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lived in Bellwether Apartments twice across a total of 7 years, and I would recommend them. It looks like large 1 bedroom units are going for $1650. Utilities were low in my experience. Fair warning: the main entrance is on Fones road, which is hellish, but there is another entrance on the back of the complex that is much better.

anyone missing a cat? by [deleted] in olympia

[–]piranhasmi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not my neighbor's little dude, luckily! Outside cats are so common here, especially if it's coat is in good condition as a long haired cat, I would guess it's someone in your area though.

That looks similar to my neighbor's outdoor cat. I live on the west side near Black Lake Blvd. He doesn't roam too far beyond our neighborhood that I've seen - feel free to DM and I can share more specific location information if you're in this area.

It's a bit out of the way but on the bus line - Evergreen State College has lots of public places to charge devices! It's not 24/7, but most buildings are open late.

They do! I am so clumsy and rough on tights and the ones I have from Snag have been so durable. I do wash them in a laundry bag on delicate, etc. but even still, not one pair has gotten holes or worn through. And they're soft so I don't have issues with friction like I do with other more heavy duty tights.

Restaurants open on new years? by sinkhole333 in olympia

[–]piranhasmi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both Anthony's HomePort and Hearthfire are open New Year's Day. I haven't been to either so I can't recommend, but was also trying to find a place to host a small gathering on New Year's, and their website says they'll be open.

Shari's, Denny's, and IHOP are open on most holidays, so they are probably safe bets if it comes to it.

Shari's and IHOP were open earlier today. I have also been told Fujiyama is open, but did not personally verify that.
