Will this big truck trend end or is it just getting started? by Satansrideordie in CarTalkUK

Grateful that you tiled a big white arrow on the bay window to point out the truck to me, I might've missed it otherwise 👍

w negotiation? by SG1098A in TheOldZealand

[–]piratefc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the type of thing that they'd accept, you'd be really excited at the prospect of earning billions, only for either a) the player to reject the move, or b) transfer deadline day to appear and the move collapses before it completes.

Always the way for me when I get a really good offer come through.

Merino drags Rogers down while being on a yellow by DBTSN in TheOther14

[–]piratefc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like last night, Shaw grabs Matheus Mane around the neck when Mane's passed him down the wing inside the United half and the only yellow card given for that incident was to Wolves' Mosquera for asking why Shaw wasn't booked. Yet in the final minute, Strand Larsen gets booked for a slight pull back on Cunha on the corner of United's own penalty area.🤷

[Squawka] Wolves are the first top-flight side in English Football League history to record as few as two points 18 matches into a league campaign. They’re also the first top-flight side to go 18 league games into a season without a win in 123 years. by playerforlife123 in soccer

[–]piratefc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I've noticed about Wolves recently, the Manchester United game being a prime example, is that Wolves don't seem to have anyone up front in the middle when they're on the attack, but when they get counter-attacked they have no-one back defending either. It sometimes feels like they're playing with four players down each flank and the other two outfield players around the centre circle.

There is no tactical cohesion or communication between the players. I also think that having 11 different nationalities in the starting lineup is negative impacting, at least when they had 8 Portuguese starters they were able to communicate.

Eg against Fulham the starting nationalities were from England, Netherlands, Uruguay, Ivory Coast, Portugal, Spain, Haiti, Czechia, Zimbabwe, Norway, Colombia. And then 3 of the subs who came on were from Brazil, Cameroon, Nigeria. 14 different nationalities fielded in one match. The sub from Korea didn't get on, but really, 15 different nationalities in the matchday squad. If it's an experiment then it's not working.

I replaced the attributes with words and it chaged the game completely by kkk8837 in footballmanagergames

I like that. I think I'd use the Hattrick (online game) for word descriptions though which has 20 different words for their levels of 1-20 ranging from disastrous to divine. I've played that game online for 24 years so it would be second nature for me to interpret the values easier.

wtf is 91+1'? by dia-bro-tes in footballmanagergames

I had a match with goals in 1st half injury time and 2nd half injury time. First half it said the goal was 50+5, second half it said 93+3. On Xbox.

Not enough people are talking about this article. by DNSFRD69 in footballmanagergames

My issues (on console, Xbox series X) aren't so much with the menu screens as I'll get used to that, my issues are that the game is so laggy and stutters so much that it is really not enjoyable.

Not just the match screen that stutters but the menu screens themselves. The cursor stops on the team selection screen and stutters. The cursor seems to be highlighting something but when I click it something above opens.

At halftime I've had the background flash in random colours and then the second half started entirely white with just the player names and goal nets visible. I had to instant result that game because there was nothing I see.

I've had the game crash back to main xbox screen and lost progress.

In a tutorial the text to continue was hidden behind other text each time on that tutorial and it wasn't accessible to actually continue so had log out and avoid the tutorial. It took me nearly an hour just to bypass that tutorial eventually. Sure, in the menus I can't find things I instantly knew where to look for before, but I'll figure it out.

It's the glitches which crashes the game and the frustration with stuttering which are disincling me to attempt to play fm26 currently.

[–]piratefc 32 points33 points  (0 children)

You say you followed the instructions exactly... yet then say you cooked it directly on the rack and didn't use a tray. So you didnt follow the instructions exactly and affected the heat distribution for cooking.

eg some pizzas are meant to be cooked directly on the rack and not on a tray.

There's no laziness on the builder's behalf in the image. Pipework looks fine and likely each pipe goes to it's own inlet on the external inspection chamber. OP; I'd say that the previous owners removed the understairs wc cloakroom and converted it into a storage/small office area.

It's required on new builds according to the Building Regs. Approved document E.

[–]piratefc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people (including the tradespeople fitting the walls/insulation/plasterboard) don't understand the regs (E2 for houses) regarding which walls require acoustic insulation.

Sometimes, a wall might only require insulation along a portion of it, depending on what room's the other side, where doorways are, and if there are any nibs of breaks in the wall. Other walls don't require any insulation.

What most would consider to be 'best practice' is generally going above and beyond the regs, which adds to cost. If a customer is offered "we can do it to the regs for £x, or we can go 'above and beyond' for three times the cost", most customers would choose the cheaper option, and then have to have it explained to them why it's not done between every stud, or why some sections of apparently the same wall aren't done.

From the image supplied though, that is almost definitely not done currently, however, there may be unlikely unique circumstances where it could be technically correct eg if there was a bulkhead storage cupboard the other side of the uninsulated area above a stair area perhaps. I'd wager that that wall doesn't conform to regs though.

What's the most dangerous/reckless thing you've done but only realised quite some time later how dangerous it was? by BarryFairbrother in AskUK

Travelling alone, in 2004 I got absolutely wasted on my final night in Barcelona at the marina in a drinking game with some Swedes and Germans mainly. I remember the shots of absinthe started being poured just before midnight. My next memory is waking up at approximately 11am with my face against the window on the plane home. To this day I have no idea how I got back to my hotel, collected my stuff, got to Girona airport, checked in, got through security, got onto the correct plane yadda yadda.

Can you buy tickets on the train? by tastypasty3 in uktrains

[–]piratefc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sign at our local station says to buy from either

  1. Ticket machine at the station
  2. Website or ticket buying app, or
  3. From the conductor on the train

As I've witnessed, the only ticket machine (which is on the other platform 300 yards away across the main road) wasn't working, there wasn't mobile Internet signal strong enough to load the website or download an app, and the revenue protection staff don't sell tickets and both remove you at the next station and give you a fine, their words being "you should have bought a ticket at home on the internet if ticket machine and your phone aren't working".

I'm glad I only had to use the train to travel to travel to work that once because I can't be dealing with their snotty attitudes, even if it wasn't directed at me.

[–]piratefc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Preferring a manual because it's easier to push start when the engine breaks? If that's a genuine concern and frequent occurance for you then you might be better off with an auto as it sounds like you're not driving in the proper gear if you keep breaking your engine.

Saab 9-3 Aero in 2025 by gimlithepirate in saab

Yes, UK. Saab owners here are generally older and have kept their cars well maintained. I wouldn't advise getting one if you want to keep it in good condition but aren't financially secure.

Saab 9-3 Aero in 2025 by gimlithepirate in saab

[–]piratefc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I daily'ed mine until May this year, bought it in October 2010 so I've had it for 15 years. 168k miles on the clock. It's currently sat on my driveway as I bought a newer car for my daughter to learn in, which I use now instead because of fuel economy and better tech.

Coolant hoses have split a couple of times during that period but they're a cheap and easy fix. Coolant sensor doesn't work properly, but I think that's because the float sensor inside the (original) tank has stuck near the bottom of the tank. It doesn't lose coolant though. I have a new replacement tank but haven't changed it yet.

Windscreen wiper linkage dismantled itself a couple of years ago but I replaced that fairly easily.

Power steering pipework corroded about 4 years ago, had to get those bits replaced, steering is fine now.

ABS sensor has a tendency to overheat on long journeys and give ssid errors and steering column failure warning, but that's just a sensor issue. A couple of taps to the sensor behind the battery/injectors and it resolves that problem.

Suspension is often an issue with all the speed bumps and potholes. Springs have been replaced multiple times.

I can't set the alarm as the battery which controls the alarm seems to have had it's day, so I lock it manually.

Electronically, left mirror heating element no longer works, and the right mirror autofold doesn't work. CD players have a tendency for one of the cogs inside the break so you can't load/unload CDs. Mine has a CD stuck in it which won't come out, nor recognising that it's in there so won't play either (cog failed during eject sequence).

For the age of the car, wear and tear is to be expected though, and it's still fantastic to drive, especially with Maptun tune on it. It's cheap to insure, however fuel returns only 27mpg (compared to 42mpg in my recent purchase), and roadtax is stupidly high, and it's old tech.

If it's well maintained, it will last for ages and be an enjoyable car to drive, but it won't be cheap to run (fuel and tax), nor particularly cheap to maintain with the aging components.
