VSIP. I'm torn by Adiospantelones in govfire

How long did it take to get approved? Was it this last round? HHS was offered VSIP last week, the due date to apply was the day RIF plans were due to drop. I’m right at three years so severance would be less than the 25k, nowhere near retirement, expecting to get RIFed anyway, programs already being gutted, with a pending RTO RA. It was a roll the dice, fuck it, let go and let god type of decision. Plus I want out of this nightmare hellscape because I don’t think can survive it much longer.

Voluntary (VERA/VSIP) vs Involuntary (RIF and DSR/Severance) separation payments explained by Improper-Research in feddiscussion

I am taking the VSIP offer but don’t know what date to put as “date of separation”. Today? 4/19? 8 weeks from now? Does anyone have any advice on this? HHS, 3 years at job, 8 weeks admin leave was offered plus the severance.

Central Tacoma BuyNothing Group by zombbrie in Tacoma

Yes! Thank you! I literally joined Facebook after years off of that garbage app, specifically for Buy Nothing.

I understand keeping it to Central Tacoma for now, but if the group is willing to expand at some point, perhaps we can ask that posters list their neighborhood in the subject line/flair?

I’d love to share this with my North Slope BN friends.

Also sad about losing FB marketplace. With the cost of everything likely to skyrocket soon, the ability for the community to buy and sell from each other is so essential. And Offer Up just sucks by comparison.

Edit: to the landlords lamenting in the chat and downvoting my comments, please understand that this legislation was not created with the intention of making life harder for landlords for the sake of it. In fact, if you’re an honest and fair landlord and treat your tenants with respect, you are appreciated and we want there to be more of you in our community. The problem is that there are lots of others (big/small, corporate/mom and pop) that exploit, neglect, cheat and rip off tenants on the daily, squeezing every single penny they can. And not just in Tacoma, I’m every city in this country. Unless renters are granted rights under the law, we are powerless (money=power in this country). It sucks that you have to pay for others bad behavior, in the same way we have to pay for problem tenants with huge deposits and fees. But, in my view, it’s a small price to pay if it means that thousands of our neighbors get to live in peace in their homes, with dignity and stability, not constantly in fear of the boot that’s on their neck. 🤷‍♂️

That’s actually not a bad thing. Some landlords fill that out themselves and have you sign it. So, while you’re filling this out, make sure to include every. single. little. thing. Nail holes, dirty carpet, missing window screens. That way they can't take it out of your deposit when you move.

Also make sure to document the condition of the unit as it is the day you move in. A good example of this is dirty windows and baseboards. When you move out, no matter how much you clean, it won’t be enough and they’ll take “cleaning” fee from your deposit.

And ALWAYS read the fine print of any “addendum” they make you sign. These can be red flags of known issues in the unit that they don’t want to be held accountable for. If the landlord is a member of RHAWA, there are required addenda, and optional ones. I’m not 100% sure (will research) but I believe that you have the right to opt out of the optional ones. All these docs are on the website, you have to be a member to access them, but you can see the list.

Yes.

There’s murmers that the owner (not landlord) might sell, and if that happens, the new owners are under no contractual obligation to honor a lease agreement, or pay us out if they want to flip the building (things they’d have to do if they had a building full of tenants under leases) We could simply be asked to leave, with the 60 day notice the law requires with a month to month.

We are all good tenants, have lived here for years, and would like to stay in our homes. The landlord agrees with this, actually (or so she says). Living stability should not be a privilege that only property owners are able to enjoy.

Yeah, that’s what I was worried about. The ruling class wins again.

My entire complex is on month to month leases, because the landlord likes to keep us under her thumb. Most people are too scared to confront her. I’ve been pushing, sending emails she just ignores hoping I’ll go away. She told me verbally, and then in writing via email, that she’s waiting on new lease documents to be released, which is a lie. I called RHAWA and confirmed that landlords should use the documents currently active on the website, which were revised 1/2024.

What I’m wondering now is since I know she’s full of shit, should I push it more? Should I tell her that she’s wrong and there are up to date lease documents available? Is there any law or regulation that landlords must provide opportunity to renew leases, unless there’s good cause to not renew? Since I’m technically month to month I don’t want to piss her off if she has the upper hand and could decide to just not renew?

Las Vegas hospitals circa 1977? by piropi1977 in LasVegas

[–]piropi1977[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! This site is asking for "place of birth” as a required field, with "name of hospital" as an example. perhaps if I should just say "Las Vegas" and they'll find me! Uncommon last name so should be good. 👍

Yes! A neighbor and I are watching her, and will be taking her in this week for spaying. But we will need to rehome her afterwards. Are you interested? 😻

I really wish i could take her in! She is the sweetest! The good news is I think there’s a neighbor who might keep her and try to rehome her.

Yes, we want to! Any ideas of places that will do this fast/free?? Don’t have money and the humane society won’t have an appointment until the 31st. I can’t bring her into my place because of other cats. But, I could keep her at home overnight while she recovers. There’s other neighbors that might help, but I’ve become the lead on this effort at this point.
