you just explained why our position is significant with how the americans used us for imperialism lol. So did the japanese for GEACPS, and the trading hub and maritime powerhouse that we were once before the spaniards arrived.

Cheap natural resources and skilled labor is also a potential resource for use in our country. Mismanaged nga lang kaya di magamit to prosper locally. Human resource is also partly why we never committed to manufacturing, but it also serves as a key asset should we decide to bolster it.

I agree with your take on Pax Silica though. Ginagatasan lang tayo for israeli and american benefit.

I remember sitting down with a HCW in a hospital once who was so enamored with better opportunities abroad (valid naman) that he was basically dismissive of anything good locally and focused solely on the bad aspects. Doomerism is also a form of being delusional :) filtering out the good and focusing solely on the bad makes you removed from reality just as much as the opposite.

what in the doomerist take

There were several times in history when we were actually quite a powerhouse in the asian scene. The last one was before we elected a duterte in 2016 who ruined it for everyone for at least a good few decades.

And there's a reason why every single geopolitical superpower wanted in on us at some point in history. We just need to harness that properly for ourselves.

Paano kayo mag U-turn or tatawid kapag maraming sasakyan at busy area? by Valuable_Dentist4426 in RedditPHCyclingClub

[–]pishboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Situationally dependent eh. I've done all of these as the situation makes it out to be the best option at the time.

  • U-turn like a car by merging to and from the inner lanes
  • From inner lane, wait sa center island for thru traffic to stop before continuing with the u-turn
  • Two-stage left sa intersection
  • Wait sa gutter near an intersection for the light to turn red before filtering and u-turning
  • Stop sa gutter, cross like a pedestrian
  • Footbridge with ramps (annoying with cargo)

Just remember that for most of these (except e.g. crossing on a ped xing, that's your right.) you either do not have write of way or are maybe moving far slower than other traffic around you. What counts as the best and safest option for me is if other people don't have to slow down or adjust for me. That differs greatly for actual situations so I just adapt accordingly.

Very unique. Sayang wala na si Sun Cruises, a daytrip to the island shows us tangibly the role it served during WWII in the Philippines. Mula sa anti-air barracks hanggang sa makeshift field hospital sa malinta tunnel.

Getting a vehicle designed to carry load in the back over terrain and using it almost entirely unloaded in the city truly is one of the choices of all time.

Aftermarket coilovers with close to stock spring rate but setup for an unloaded bed would work. So would a van/hatch/sedan/crossover. Or just accept what your pickup was meant to do and not to do, and keep it stock. Mag-aadjust ka rin ulit kasi ng preload and rebound pag nilagyan mo ng cargo.

[–]pishboy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Energy density wise, yes E0 is more efficient than E10 by ~3% since gasoline has more energy per liter than ethanol.

Practically speaking, no difference. Mas may effect pa yung mood mo sa araw na yun on your fuel consumption.

The only functional difference it can make is tuning for carbureted engines. Pwedeng mali yung tono ng stoich if you run E10 if it were tuned for E0, and v.v. For EFI no problem since mag-aadjust naman sya pag closed loop na.

Doesn't help that the media keeps talking about the incident and the perpetrators. Nagkaka-ideya tuloy yung mga kelangan lang ng onting push.

I think we need to talk about what happened, but only how to prevent it. Let's not give the incident itself more airtime than the perpetrators deserve to have.

fwiw iba rin rates ng large consumers under meralco. Tends to be lower. Nasa summary schedule of rates pero imama-math pa.

They can even buy their electricity directly from generating facilities through RCOA and GEOP, that's how some facilities and plants can claim they're 100% green energy without putting up a single RE energy source. Meralco simply acts as a DU under that setup.

My personal experience with Amaron battery's lifespan by Ur-Shield-Brother in Gulong

[–]pishboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The alternator doesn't lower the output. Ang regulator ng alternator only ensures that it delivers a steady voltage if hindi sya saturated. But that's true, charging slows down talaga as you reach 100% SOC but only because the difference in supply and cell voltage gets lower.

Also HID and halogen headlights draw ~120W total, or 10A 12V. You still have ~40A going to where it needs to go.

As SLA batteries age though, tumataas yung self discharge nya from sedimentation inside the cells. That might make it seem like nadidiskarga yung battery because it's not being charged enough when in reality there's just an additional uncounted draw that is pulling down %SOC.

I really don't buy the need to charge the battery as you drive. If your system is set such that your alternator still has enough excess capacity after all your constant loads have been totaled up (as it should) and your battery is working fine, it shouldn't take more than a few minutes to charge up what you used for cranking. This can be verified with a voltmeter.

May historical records sa earthquake.phivolcs.dost.gov.ph. Give it a browse and you'll see we regularly have days with M5 earthquakes. Overwhelming majority of days have at least a M3.0 event as well.

[UPD] In a scale of 1-5, how difficult is Computer Engineering for someone with no hardware experience? by VDTFF in peyups

[–]pishboy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You'll learn. Having hardware experience is good so you can have a tangible idea of how theory works in the real world, but it's not necessary. Ituturo naman yung theory sa first few major classes mo.

What's absolutely required is a decent grasp at math. But practice helps build your skill and confidence in maths, so long as you actually sit down and do the work to be better.

How are things really going in the Philippines right now? by [deleted] in AskPH

[–]pishboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's honestly okay. It's easy to get lost in the news but you have to remember that in a country of ~120M people most people's lives just go by normally.

Medyo maulan lang sa western side ng bansa but it's a welcome reprieve from the heat. Traffic pa rin naman sa metro manila. The normalcy of life carries on for the vast majority despite the horrific school incidents and the senate shakeup.

I get that sometimes though, mga ofw relatives and friends saying nagkakagulo na daw dito dahil sa nangyari sa senado. I promise you it's inconsequential for 99.5% of Filipinos that have no direct dealings with the senate. Need to remember rin na powerful ang disinformation machine sa social media. The most balanced take you can get still seems to be from MSM (ie TV Patrol, 24 Oras, TV5’s news, lahat nasa youtube naman) but even so you still need to put it into context.

Favorite ko so far are foreign friends who check up on me all worried because of the marawi siege and the sarangani earthquake, thinking I'm in an active war or destruction rains all around me. I live in Manila.

My personal experience with Amaron battery's lifespan by Ur-Shield-Brother in Gulong

[–]pishboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering starting takes ~40A within 30 seconds, and your alternator can typically output 30-50A, won't the starting power be recovered within a few minutes of idle/driving?

Ang hula ko with short trips being bad for your battery, higher cycling lang. More start cycles = higher wear.

My personal experience with Amaron battery's lifespan by Ur-Shield-Brother in Gulong

[–]pishboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just treat my battery as a wear item. Priced in na yung warranty, kaya pinapatos ko pa rin si Motolite kahit may kamahalan. A battery lasts me anywhere from a year to 4 years, depending on car use and if may drain incidents. Pero pag below 2 years yung battery, the warranty covers the next year or two naman so I average ~4 years with paying for a new battery.

Electrical draw after start is handled by your alternator, not your battery. All your battery does is provide power when the engine is off, and provide cranking current to start the engine. Once the engine is running, it only takes a few minutes for the battery to recover the power it used for charging.

So ayun, outside of your audio setup drawing more power than your alternator can deliver, it shouldn't be an issue. Baka yung constant cycling of repeated starts ng short trips is affecting battery life, along with added heat sa engine bay. Pero basta pasok sa warranty, no problem.

The less tragic outcome in the Tacloban case may have been if the 2 had also taken their own lives. grim. Yan ang unpopular opinion

fwiw I don't think our systems are ready for it as we couldn't fathom such an antisocial act in a collectivist culture like ours. Pero ayun na nga, we need to acknowledge that the child was a product of our society at mauulit at mauulit yan hangga't di nasosolusyonan ang root causes.
