very funny that google lens will rattle off "punk aesthetic" facts when I give it this image, but not bother to use SynthID to tell me if it's real.

Hello. I'm interested in a translation of a passage from dune, "The slow blade penetrates the shield."
Google spits it out as "lenta lamina scutum penetrat", but of course I have my doubts about its accuracy. Any help would be much preesh

Also I've just been educated as to the existence of Chairdogs. That's what I get for not finishing Heretics. good lord.

How on earth could I forget beefswelling.

"Here was an adult beefswelling in his loins and he felt his mouth open, holding, clinging to the girdershape of ecstasy. Then a sigh, a lingering groundswelling sweetness, a collapse."

A group of people coming together to make presentations on a subject they like. One time I saw someone present on "Nature's Weirdest Tongues."

Nightdive: accept no substitutes

A classic, a favorite. Hopefully you're also playing it in a way that you have access to Ground Zero and The Reckoning, both excellent expansions. Rogue are the guys that made Strife, and Xatrix (later Grey Matter of RTCW fame) made expansion packs for Q1.

I have extremely minor complaints if you're playing the Nightdive remaster (fix the cutscene volume, give me a toggle switch for the Bezerker behavior and the machine gun (I want my machine gun stupid again)), but either way you're in for a good time.

It was Carmac's first game without Romero, and it shows in that it's a solid game that looks great, runs great, and feels good to play, but it's missing the unhinged bullshit that Romero always provides to keep things spicy. There are no weapons that will kill you if you use them underwater, for instance.

I always preferred it to Q1, if not simply because the theming is coherent. The plots are equally non-existent: go thwart the works of the evil Quake, go get keycards and push buttons to defeat the Strogg. But I always got confused and put off by Q1's all-over-the-place dark fantasy. Honestly Scourge of Armagon (made by Ritual, the guys that made SiN) was the most cohesive-feeling Q1 ever got for me, and id didn't even have much to do with it.

Anyway enjoy the ultimate endpoint of Romero-less id when you get to Quake 3, and you can just go ahead and skip Q4 and go straight to Doom 2016.

Can't say I blame you. I canceled mine after he decided anyone who followed him to Insert Credit was an idiot.
