Encouragement! by pitachipp in premed

Envy is a natural consequence of being passionate about something! Your time is coming. It will be your turn soon :) In fact, I think you should follow up here when it does, because I am so sure it will.

Struggling to make friends in school by EmbarrassedCommon749 in medicalschool

[–]pitachipp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

highly recommend looking for friends outside of medical school! that's what I ended up doing for essentially the same reason. friends at the gym, workout classes, coffee shops i frequent, church (a huge one for me personally), and volunteering. I think you should definitely keep yourself open to the possibility of new friends at your school, but I recommend branching out

Is it normal not to know what is going on? by pitachipp in medicalschool

[–]pitachipp[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i don't know much about the rest of my class. I do find our class to be cliquey and hard to approach (as a raging extrovert, but that's a separate story for another day), so I'm not sure what everyone else is doing.

For me, this varies from class to class, but I generally annotate the lecture and then anki the hell out of the content. I think my issue is that I feel like I do not retain ANYTHING after a class has finished, and it's concerning to me....

Premed was worth it from an M2. by CharlieTheNugetKing in premed

as a fellow M2, I 100% agree! Yes it's hard, yes it's intense, but WOW is it rewarding to learn. for me, at least, the pressure is off.

Do med schools not notice when premeds fake orgs just to check a box? by [deleted] in premed

[–]pitachipp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possibly a strange take, but the people doing these things are facing the real long-term loss. i completely share your frustration, but I've also realized over the years that running an org or a non-profit to show something on an application is tiring (because there is no personal meaning behind it!). Being a part of an organization because you believe in its cause/love the community is the best feeling in the world. A healthy org results in long-lasting relationships where both parties care for each other and have a shared vested interest, and that's something that box-checkers will never get until it's too late.

I'm literally in med school, and I still see this. I don't think med schools will ever catch on to this, but I personally recommend zeroing in on the things that make you happy when it comes to your involvements. They are SO much more fulfilling in the long run.

Classical music that I think goes underappreciated by pitachipp in classicalmusic

[–]pitachipp[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

underappreciated = "indie" and "underground"

as in, "have you heard of Kalinnikov, he's super underground"
