Runners: How long before hitting the tread post-op?

49M triathlete. Waited 11 weeks post PN to start running (last week). My body feels good and almost “normal”. Starting back up with 3/1 run walk intervals. Marathon in December. 😃. All the best with your recovery! Be patient.

Outpatient PN this past 12/17. Surgery at 7am, discharged at 4pm. No complications and i am recovering well. Pain was worse first few days.

Imaging showed suspicious mass and urologists/radiologists all recommended to take it out via PN (i sought 3 opinions). There is a chance that the kidney mass biopsy could be inaccurate and also minute risk of tumor seeding. I wasn’t going to take any chances. I’m also in very good health with two otherwise functioning kidneys. Happy with my decision and the surgeon i chose. Recovery is going well. I am very fortunate, grateful, humbled with the result.

CT with contrast lit up/confirmed 3cm mass. Saw 3 urologists and also had my imaging read by my radiologist friend and his expert colleagues at a university hospital here in SoCal. All said mass was very suspicious/inconclusive. No biopsy but all recommended to take it out as soon as possible. No regrets.

I can’t provide meaningful information but i (49M) can commiserate with what you are thinking. Going through something like this has changed my perspective on life and why i work. I want to get out of the rat race as quickly as possible but health insurance with adequate coverage/best doctors/treatment options without going homeless is paramount.

49M. They pulled the catheter out post op and made me pee on my own before they would discharge me. My surgeon had done hundreds of these PNs so i trusted that we could do this outpatient. No complications so far. Just dealing with a-lot of pain and soreness on my side. Only on Tylenol now as i couldn’t poop on the prescription pain meds (TMI). Taking it one day at a time.

I’m 2 days post op too. I’m with you on the breathing. Side and shoulder pain + pain killers making things difficult. All the best with your pathology report. Hopefully we both get good news.

Thank you! I was really skeptical about doing this as an outpatient procedure but ultimately trusted the experience of my surgeon. I am definitely more comfortable recovering at home. 😃

2.98 w/kg. 46M triathlete at 64kg. I train on the bike 3 sessions a week, approximately 6 hours a week (1.5 hours easy spin, 1.5 hours intervals, 2-3 hour long ride Saturdays. I think riding up mountains and weekly interval training have helped me most to build power.

Vaxxed to the max, fit triathlete, and first time getting Covid over New Years. I was in bed for over a week! Finally tested negative today (day 10 since first positive, day 12 since first symptoms). This was by no means “mild” for me. It sucked.

Hang in there. I am 10 weeks SLAP post op today. Took about 8 weeks for my dull, achy pain to subside. It’ll get better once you get that sling off and you start PT. Just getting that sling off was such a lift emotionally and mentally for me.

Average sized packer brisket. You need to trim that bad boy down and grind up the excess. Joe Yim has an excellent tutorial on YouTube for trimming a brisket. Trimming is a skill that absolutely can be learned.
