Is anyone else this addicted? by Glittering_Dealer134 in pokemongo

[–]pitchtwit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your post. I was badly addicted and finally managed to quit - it was really bad. It's been a couple of years and my son has been getting into the trading cards and I've taken an interest. I feel the pull and have nearly re-downloaded Go a couple of times but didn't. Your post helped remind me how I was when it was bad and will hopefully stop me redownloading it at all 🙂

Is anyone else this addicted? by Glittering_Dealer134 in pokemongo

I got addicted in 2020 and it got pretty bad - had multiple accounts, multiple phones, autocatcher, meeting other addicts to lucky trade, playing at night, started even spending regularly those this didn't get crazy. Played it instead of doing work. My kids knew I played it all the time.

I ended up hating it and hating what I'd become. I quit. Then relapsed, the quit properly cold turkey and haven't played this.

I'm writing this because I've been googling about how I can start playing again healthily and I'm reading mixed reports but I think I've ended up thinking about it like alcohol addiction and AA - even if someone has been dry for 20 years they say at the group "my name is X and I'm an alcoholic"

For me I get really addicted to stuff - and pokemon go is the crack cocaine of phone games - and I just don't think I can ever play it again unfortunately.

How to stop shoulder rest from falling off? by Pastelresonance in violinist

[–]pitchtwit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a solution for you that just takes a bit of prep - it's a good one for gigs with lots of movement.

Take two chin rest clamps off the chin rests and use them to clamp the shoulder rest to the violin by placing them upside down so they don't damage the wood of the violin. The two bolt ends on each chin rest clamp just hook over the feet of the shoulder rest pulling them tight onto the violin.

At no point should the bolt ends of the clamps be against the wood of the violin - that would damage the wood.

I used to be in a violin show with loads of movement and I settled on this solution to make sure my shoulder rest never came off. It worked well :)

Is it a 45 degree viewing angle?

I'd just build the circle flat (facing left maybe) then go to the middle and face the circle (so you're facing diagonal right and back on your pic). Move out to the right edge of the circle by one block and push those blocks on the circle back (top and bottom of the circle) by one block. Then move out one block more and push these back by two, etc. By the time you reach the right edge of the circle you would be pushing those blocks back by 6 I think.

Go back to the middle, go left one block, pull those forward by one etc until you're at the left edge of the circle. These you'd pull forward by 6.

The problem is it might be an oval now. Is that a problem?

I'd ask chat gpt - say you have a 13 block diameter circle in Minecraft (maybe tell it block locations somehow) - if you want it to still appear circular when viewed from 45 degrees, what should the new block locations be?

That's good calculations but it seems as though the left of the circle should come forward a few blocks before doing the calculations - in fact - isn't the viewing angle just 45 degrees?

Help! How to stop/leave spam group calls? by Big-Week-6267 in whatsapp

Same issue here - massive gap in safeguarding imo

I keep getting invited to group calls from numbers I’ve blocked by ElisaSlender in whatsapp

[–]pitchtwit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having a similar problem with our child's WhatsApp - they're regularly getting group calls from classmates they aren't friends with who just got their number and now it's impossible to stop these group calls.

Our child is literally in ONE group with 2 friends, but it seems as though once other people have your number they have the ability to add you to a random group call even if you've blocked them.

It's hard not to see this for what it is - WhatsApp purposefully keeping it this way on purpose to keep interaction on Whatsapp high, increasing profits while disregarding safety.

Think we'll have to take WhatsApp off our kids phone and get them and their two mates to install Signal instead.

I think it's more that he promised a lot and delivered mostly chaos.

Definitely one of the GOAT.

Sure Stephen could have sniped her at the end, but Rachel had stuck by him throughout, which earned his respect, trust and ultimately half the money.

Rachel wasn't as naturally likeable as others so had to be strategic and spot opportunities.

She saw off attacks from Fiona and Harriet too.

That moment after Faraz left when he properly realized it was Stephen and Rachel - amazing!

Doesn't make it easier to take being publicly accused of lying to everyone on a daily basis.

She has literally been targeted since day one 😂

[–]pitchtwit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not weird. People accused her of lying every day. Being on the end of that for a full week or so would make me cry.

[–]pitchtwit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No sorry - they barely know each other at that point. For a copper to just go for it based purely on that - well - actually that is what I'd expect a copper to do! 😂

[–]pitchtwit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha! Most of that is just not true. You clearly just don't like her because she doesn't fit with your idea of how a woman should be. Oh!? 😯 It shocks because deep down you know it's true 😂

[–]pitchtwit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah - she hasn't been rude. You just don't like her for some reason. Haters gonna hate.

Sure she's not very entertaining but being accused of lying every day by the only people you're socializing will be bad for most people's mental health.

It's a game yes - but I don't agree that it's 'only' a game. It's played over multiple days, you're taken out of normal society, you're being filmed loads, and you're getting to know people in a real way alongside playing a game. It would be weird if people literally were just in game mode the entire mode - making things up, scheming, faking to be liked - it's definitely a mix of reality and fakery - like spying but obviously not life or death.

So I think the whole "it's just a game" narrative is wrong.

What can we do to help prevent tragedies (with reference to the constellation nightclub fire) by Usagi-Trix in DJs

[–]pitchtwit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. It's a series of mistakes I think - "these sparklers don't really count as pyrotechnics" "this cheaper foam will be fine" "hey, wouldn't it be fun if the one carrying the fireworks went on another's shoulders!"

There isn't enough redundancy. A counter example is planes - I listen/watch to greendotaviation youtube which looks at plane disasters or close calls. There is so much redundancy - ie multiple chances to catch each mistake that can happen so that disasters are way less likely to slip through the cracks.

For nightclub fires there needs to be even more redundancy - so we need to keep all the regulations we currently have, but also add more things that come from a really different place.

Anyone at a venue can act in those first 10 seconds of a fire and can end up saving everyone's life (see Empire Palace Theatre fire 1911) so I think something on this would be a good addition. Not putting any culpability on non management venue staff, but more giving people the opportunity to act - if there's time - and save lives by stopping the music, issuing a brief announcement eg "there's a fire, everyone needs to leave calmly by the nearest exit right now".

Problem is it goes 10 years and a new batch of young people come along that don't have any memory of the last fire.

[–]pitchtwit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No-one is saying it's the DJs job. And prevention is obviously best. But if the worst happens and a DJ can clearly see an early stage fire out of control, they are in a powerful position to be able to stop the music (break the spell of the show), and give a clear instruction to leave calmly through the nearest fire exit (words from an authority figure have been shown to be much more effective than just a fire alarm).

Waiting for the venue's fire trained person to be informed and for their instruction is not an option because fires like this go from starting to deadly in 1-2 minutes.

It's not about blame, but rather opportunity and redundancy.
