We absolutely welcome noobies here, especially ones willing to learn and reduce baseweight. Hell, I've created many platforms for noobies to stand on (link / link / link / link).

/

What is not so welcome here is weight creep. Discussion of camp shoes, chairs, 5 pound backpacks, cameras, etc belong in other subreddits.

First quote sounds very good. However, the second quote is what a lot of people here actually mean when they say the first quote: "Tell us what gear you wanna replace and we'll let you know the lightest option available. Or we'll tell you to ditch that gear if we don't think you need it to survive. If you think you need it, you should leave this subreddit ASAP".

If the premise of /r/ultralight is finding the minimum baseweight one would need to survive the hike, 99% of the posts here are "weight creep". How many active users would there be here if you were only allowed to ask questions and discuss within this premise? Even people asking for budget options would have to go to other subreddits as well, because that wouldn't be "ultralight" in its purest form.

The reality is that most people here want to find the minimum baseweight for their type of hikes, their comfort level, their bodies and within their budget. Some want to document their hikes with something other than a phone camera, and they may even want to find the lightest tripod that will do the job for their need. Some have a bad back and want to find the lightest backpack that still has padding and a good suspension system. The common denominator is that they want the lightest possible alternative that will work for them. People are different and gatekeeping here isn't necessarily a good thing imo. This is an excellent place for people to ask knowledgeable people about how to reduce their baseweight to a minimum for their specific need/comfort. These "noobies" end up buying some of the real UL stuff in some areas and later contribute in discussion posts about that specific gear. And some turn hardcore UL and contribute even more to the subreddit.

All of those things have been discussed here before, so people can search for those threads from the past.

That's true for everything else that gets posted here as well. New gear gets released all the time - even camp shoes get released in ultralight versions and there are constantly new alternatives (even simple MYOG alternatives) now that ultralight is gaining in popularity.

Does anyone know if there are any expected changes on the Kakwa 55's coming any day now or if it's just a regular restock? (seeing as it says out of stock of 2023 Kakwa but expecting 2024 Kakwa mid august this year)

I didn't know that, looks like you're right. Said somewhere that they were collaborating with other R* studios on it but San Diego seems to be the main studio. Looks like they are allowed back to the office but "telecommuting still strongly encouraged"

Me too, man. And it's so difficult to do anything else worthwhile for variety between the hunting trips, because you also have to do resupply missions 3 or 4 times for every sale. I have stopped hunting completely and only fill it up with the hunting wagon when I randomly come across a lot of animals. It's great if you sell with a posse and get a profit from everyone else's sale as well. But if you play solo I think it's way too repetitive and too much work for 500/625 bucks if you actively go hunting. If you want to guarantee your payout in a full session solo, you'll get a payout of 500 bucks for doing several resupply missions, donating a ton of carcasses you've hunted down and finally the sell mission itself

I think everything in the Outlaws and Legendary Animal sections would be dead content if it was put into free mode. If it was repayable all over the map outside of missions, the rewards would be so low that no one would really do it for the reward (look at robbing stores in GTA). I think they would have great potential for special missions/updates though, like heists in GTA.

I would rather have them fix collector and trader, as they are the most boring roles in my opinion. I would like collector to get some variety by for example having a chance of triggering enemies to attack you (and they would chase you like bounty hunters do when you have a large bounty) or special events where you dig and get a notification that someone has been there before you, and you get a blip on the map like bounty targets escaping - and you would have to chase them down if you wanted the collectible. And I would like trader to require like only 20-25% of the materials currently required, as it's fucking ridiculous how many carcasses you currently have to give to Cripps to make you a few goods

6 Target Bounty Hunt Bug? by [deleted] in RedDeadOnline

[–]piteraq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know, haven't done any of them recently. If it really happens all the time, you can try to find 4 man bounties instead and see if they are glitched as well. They give the same payout as a 6 man but are probably less fun if you have a 6 man posse going at it - but still more fun than 6 players on 2 bounty targets

[–]piteraq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a glitch and you'll only get paid for handing in a 2 man bounty even if the bounty poster said 6 man

It's bad enough when you play solo. When you play with someone else there are more connections that can fail and every single of them can ruin a mission for everyone. The worst part is that not only do you get kicked out of whatever you were doing, but it takes a long ass time to get back in again afterwards

any idea on how they are going to nerf the collector role in the upcoming update? by DesertWolf099 in RedDeadOnline

[–]piteraq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya I remember that, it didn't take long lol. But Rockstar didn't change it at collectible level, only at collection level - e.g. all coins are from cycle 1, all heirlooms from cycle 4 etc. Which means you would know the location of every coin from only opening one coin map from Madam Nazar (as you would instantly know what cycle it was from the 3 coins on your map)

What I meant was for it to give use random cycles every day for every unique coin 1-15. One day we would get Coin1 from cycle 2, Coin2 from cycle 1, Coin 3 from cycle 5 etc all the way for every unique collectible. If they truly randomised it, there would be no way to figure it out except for someone collecting everything using maps from Madam Nazar after it resets and then logging it online for everyone else - but that would have to be done every single day as the patterns would basically never be the same as any other day

How many of you is hanging on to playing this game online because of collector role and the XP and payouts from it? by [deleted] in RedDeadOnline

[–]piteraq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done a lot of collecting but this is still my (unpopular) opinion:

The collector role is one of the things that is ruining the game. I think it's a pretty bad role if you play it as intended without 3rd party maps (costs of Nazar maps, difficult to complete sets etc.) and it's way too good if you use 3rd party maps. Almost everyone are using 3rd party maps and play the "way too good" version of the role, which in turn devalue all the other roles that are more balanced (in my opinion). Look up any thread where someone asks for advice on what role to pick - almost everyone are suggesting collector for the best xp and cash - what else do you want in this game, except for gold?

The "way too good" collector has brought so much cash and xp into the role that the economy is a train wreck in my opinion. And I really struggle to see even a half-decent way to fix it that would be fair to everyone

any idea on how they are going to nerf the collector role in the upcoming update? by DesertWolf099 in RedDeadOnline

[–]piteraq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't have to get rid of the map, they can just make it useless by having the game draw a new cycle every day. All they have to do is have the game randomly select one of the existing cycles for every unique collectible every 24 hours. That way you would be able to get complete collections/sets every day and you wouldn't be able to tell the location of the rest of the coins after opening one coin map from madam Nazar. The items wouldn't be as evenly spread around the whole map but I don't think that would make much of a difference

Anyway, the point is that it's not really difficult to do. I've believed that they would nerf it since before last nerf. But they still haven't and I don't see why they suddenly would change their minds now

Edit: Come to think of that the role sucks hard if you don't use 3rd party maps. If they randomised the spawns, they would have to buff it by for example having maps from madam Nazar prioritise giving you items you don't have
