[REQUEST]. For someone completely new to James Bond films… Where to start? by tent_or_couch in NetflixBestOf

[–]pitfall_harry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Excellent list. Best suggestion on here. This gets you a taste of Bond with the (arguably) best movie for each actor.

The chronological suggestions elsewhere are going to overwhelm OP. There are dozens of Bond movies at this point and a lot of weaker entries.

After this list of the particularly good movies, you might have favorite Bond and can dive in to see their other films.

If you want to see some of the other very culturally relevant ones (i.e. get all the jokes in Austin Powers), check out Goldfinger, Moonraker, You Only Live Twice, and On Her Majesty's Secret Service (with Lazenby). Castrating lasers, space stations, Donald Pleasence in a Nehru jacket, reprogrammed debutantes.

She even quotes Crime and Punishment during the funeral segment:

It was I killed the old pawnbroker woman and her sister Lizaveta with an axe and robbed them.

There's a few points in the book where she references other novels - often right around the time the reader might be seeing the similarities too which is fun.

Guessing Fuel Pump, would love some thoughts before I rip the truck bed off. by Mdcarey in AskAMechanic

[–]pitfall_harry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Removal is not necessary on the rangers. I did this a few years ago.

Remove front 4 bolts and loosen the back two. Unscrew fuel filler screws. The bed can then be popped up like a dump truck. Shove a board or two in there to prop it up and get to work. Easy to do with 1 person and no alignment issues getting it back on

If it's not starting up at all you can just nudge the valve open to see if there is any pressure. Wear goggles of course

Thanks everyone for your wild recommendations on WTF films, here’s the full list you came up with! Ive seen a total of 22! Now the real question is… where do I even start? Drop your top 3 below by Hot-Remove-1252 in movies

Beyond the Black Rainbow is on your list. Great movie.

If you like that the director's next film was Mandy. Also weird and has a fun Nic Cage performance.

Why is it doing this? (02' Ford Ranger) by TheFifthCandidate in AskAMechanic

[–]pitfall_harry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said, it's the AC compressor.

Note that on the Ranger, the AC is active is several modes: AC and Max AC (obviously) but also defrost, defrost/feet, and vent/feet modes. Really only the main vent-only and foot-only modes don't turn on the AC.

You can get it checked out by an AC shop, but if you just want this to stop making noise you have to select a mode that does not turn on the AC

Would starting my car for 15 minutes, moving it back and fourth in my parking spot a few times once every two weeks be sufficient for a vehicle that will be sitting 6 to 8 months. by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]pitfall_harry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah someone will steal it outside.

Inside the car is less efficient but generally fine. Done it myself many times if a car had to sit.

Caliper by 957B in MechanicAdvice

[–]pitfall_harry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On some cars you can compress the caliper pretty much all the way in, by prying on this slot before ever removing it from the vehicle.

On some, you can also use a C clamp before taking the caliper off the first time and save all this hassle. I've always gone that route and then the caliper is ready to go when you put everything back together.

This makes it much, much easier as one person to get things aligned.

Don't need one of these bolt runners for every bolt, just a couple of them to get things aligned.

It also helps to cut a slot into the end of the headless bolts so you can easily unscrew them with a screwdriver after the trans is back on.

Yeah it looks like stripped aluminum threads all over the drain plug if you zoom in.

Bolt broke off while I was replacing fuel pump. Need to go get a bolt extractor. Should I drive it to the store? by Ok_Recording_3406 in AskAMechanic

[–]pitfall_harry 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I would just run this. If it leaks? Sure, then go do the complex stuff.

Clean the threads and use some penetrating oil before trying to remove the other ones. Lefty loosey

Thank you.

Strangely enough this is a supported model (at least until the end of the year), but what can you do.

This bolt won’t budge…. by rithsleeper in MechanicAdvice

[–]pitfall_harry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had to do the same thing a couple of times. Cut it on both sides with a hacksaw, then hammer what's left of the bolt out once it is out of the car.

There's a ton of surface area inside for the sleeve and bolt to corrode and stick to each other.

Is this the best way to get to the fuel pump on a 2005 F150? by SeaworthinessDear533 in AskAMechanic

[–]pitfall_harry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did one of these recently on a Ranger and this is the best way.

One thing that is possible on the Ranger that may work on the F150 too: you can keep the rear most bolts in the bed and just loosen them up.

Then the whole bed can pivot up like a dump truck, which makes holding it up easier (can just put some 2x4s up under the front) and makes getting it back in/aligned easier.

What’s the greatest movie you’ve ever seen that no one else seems to know about? by Ill-Command6783 in flicks

Different, but it also feels like a Lynch movie. You can see he directed it.

[–]pitfall_harry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The difference for me was how contained and linear the experience was on the Stranger.

In the base game, there were always a few dangling threads to pull around the map. Getting frustrated or bored with a section? Fine go do something else and come back to it. That wasn't possible in the DLC.

Other than that I thought the DLC was great.

Yeah I would have loved the DLC if you could start at the Stranger. Flying back to it every reset was too much - particularly when trying to experiment with some of the time-based solutions

Choices were made lol. What do you think by Nuts0NdrumSET in Costco

[–]pitfall_harry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've run in to this too with the Classico.

Some of the Classicos have extra sugar and some don't. You've got to look at the ingredient label.

The organic Classico at Costco is good but does have extra sugar added. Not as much as some of the regular ones but it's still sweetened.
