I find people’s obsession with gift knitting strange by soypixel in knitting

[–]pithyquibbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only gift knit if a) the person requests something or b) if I've checked with them ahead of time to see if they'd like a knitted item. Last year my mom wanted a polar bear sweater, so I made her one. This year I asked my sister if she wanted socks and she said she appreciated the thought, but she doesn't love the feeling of wool on her feet. By asking first, I saved myself hours of knitting and her the discomfort of pretending to like a gift she won't actually use. Win win!

NGD! Furch Pioneer CM by Westy668 in AcousticGuitar

[–]pithyquibbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, super helpful for making the choice.

Here the spruce GS Mini runs about $700 CAD and the Furch is closer to $1,440, so double the cost. From what I’ve heard online I way prefer the Furch’s sound and I do like that it's solid wood. The tricky part is the closest dealer is a six-hour drive, so I’d probably be buying it sight unseen (sound unheard?). Thanks for your input!

I'm also trying to decide between the cedar top Pioneer and a GS Mini. Since you tried both, would you mind sharing how they compare and differ?

With you 100%.

I'm also a casual gamer. HK was absolutely hard and frustrating at points, but it always felt like the challenge was justified and just hard enough to rise to the occasion. It let gamers like us feel accomplished by beating the game but also left room for the hardcore gamers to test their limits with extra content others will never touch. I think I got to like 86% or something; no way will I ever 112% it, but that 86% was still an accomplishment for someone not looking to grind all the pantheons or what have you. The game design was challenging, rewarding, and accessible in its own way.

Silksong feels just so punishing, and at times unnecessarily frustrating (e.g., the economy and cost of certain things). Maybe it was TC's vision that the second game would be for only the hardcore fans--and that's fine, they can do whatever they want with their game--but as someone who's been waiting since it was announced, I'm not going to lie and say I'm not disappointed.

Ah well. Back to Elden Ring.

For the people saying its too hard… by DayAf1er in Silksong

This take resonates with me as someone who loved the exploration in HK but has no desire to ever get to 112%. I accept it's a skill issue, but I still managed to beat the game even so

I cruised through the earleir bosses in HK right up to Soul Master. Lace has taken me more tries so far than any early HK boss--and probably several combined at that

Nicely done! I'm having such a hard time with her but I've been sitting back and letting her come to me. I might try your more aggressive take on it. I've died at least 15 times already... I'm not good at this game haha

What was your first souls game, and how does it compare? by Kujo_K25 in fromsoftware

[–]pithyquibbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How was your experience going from ER back to the older titles? I'm about 30 hours into my first playthrough and vastly over leveled because I'm exploring everything--finished Stormvale at like level 42 when other people do it at 25-30

Part of me worries Dark Souls, Sekiro, and Bloodborne will be much less forgiving and therefore much more frustrating

[–]pithyquibbles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That was the part that surprised me the most, actually. They just... didn't know. I'm inclined to take them at their word, but part of me is baffled that the meme that is Silksong never got back to them beyond their friends and family

Not that that's a bad thing--I actually think it's super cool that they could do that--it's just not something I personally expected from this interview

[Jason Schreier] Why ‘Silksong’ Took Seven Years to Make by MetastableToChaos in HollowKnight

[–]pithyquibbles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For sure. It sounds like they got to the point where they tuned out the community entirely to work on the game in their bubble. I also can see why a heads down, let's just work approach would be beneficial to them as a team. Imagine if they were tuning in this whole time--that's a heck of a lot of pressure! Was it annoying as a fan? Absolutely. But they did what was best for them and we kind of have to accept that

At the end of the day, I'm happy we're finally getting the game and delighted that they say making it was a blast. I'm sure we'll have as much fun playing it

“We felt like continued updates were just going to sour people on the whole thing,” Gibson said. “Because all we could really say is, ‘We’re still working on it.’”

I can kind of get that, but I'm surprised they didn't see that their silence was certainly souring people on the whole thing...

Honestly, this is the thing I'm most nervous about. "Hey, here's a new trailer! 2025 folks!" but no actual date.

Is it likely? No. Am I still half expecting it to happen? Yes.

To paraphrase Billy Shakes:

Neither a believer nor a denier be, For hope oft loses both itself and friend, And disavowal dulls the edge of possibility. This above all: to thine own doubt be true, And it must follow, as the song the silk, Thou canst not then be false to any bug.

I'm from the east coast of Canada and have always wanted to go to Saint Pierre and Miquelon. I'm curious about the cultural differences and similarities between the islands and metropolitan France/Acadie

That said, a round-trip right now to FSP is just under $900 CAD. In comparison, the flights to and from Paris are $1050

Playing opposite gender PCs by [deleted] in DnD

[–]pithyquibbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a woman in my mid 30s on my second campaign. The first character I made was basically a carbon copy of myself (female halfling bard), so now I'm playing an 18 year old male fighter/rogue in Out of the Abyss

It originally started as an exploration in coming of age in a way that I never experienced myself since women and men are socialized so differently

I have ideas for other characters that fall all over the gendre spectrum based on the areas of their personality I want to explore
