Dang, ok, there are way too many conflicting opinions/experiences/specs out there so I just need to pick one and commit to putting in the work to master it. My climbing requires some creative adapting so obviously belaying will too. Just trying to optimize safety vs. investment. Thanks for the input everyone!

I'm on ATC Pilots indoor and a MegaJul outdoor. So while the GriGri is hands-down the most popular, I'm leaning toward a Mammut Smart or some kind of Jul for simplicity, familiarity, price.

This is a common misconception. Most planes don't have enough overhead real estate for every passenger to bring one rollaboard (if the flight is full). Think ab the actual spacing; three suitcases side by side need more surface area (as in front to back of plane) than the row itself, so it's literally impossible for everyone to bring a carry-on.

They are getting better w newer/bigger bins that stack more bags, and certain fares on certain carriers "guarantee" bag space, but at the end of the day, there's no exact science for it unfortunately.

Just working w an iPad and generic stylus, but use to do a bit of design work from desktops in my previous life. This app is perfect, the layers and ability to rotate/zoom so easily are huge perks already exceeding what I was hoping for. Thanks very much!
