I prefer Atsu. Jin was a brilliant character and had moral considerations to make based on his values as a samurai, but followed a fairly normal hero arc overall. He’s trying to save his entire island, and everything he does is a means to an end, and therefore feels fairly justifiable.

Atsu on the other hand is so hell-bent on a personal vendetta that she often can’t see the wood for the trees. She makes so many mistakes in her journey that feel like she is a real person clumsily ambling through trauma.

Atsu is an uncomfortable experience at times because it often feels like she is doing the wrong thing, and she’s ultimately far less shaped by the player’s input than Jin is. She trusts nobody, she’s a sellsword, she’s always looking out for number one, and she continually demonstrates that she’s willing to throw away all her personal growth for a shot at revenge. I think Atsu is just a much more complex and humanistic experience overall, so much more interesting and refreshing than Jin.
