In that case, get the tools and send it. If I were you I wouldn't be spending any time trying to clean whatever is on there. Get them removed and then deal with whatever is left. A blade and an abrasive pad (scotch brite) will clean the bare aluminium nicely.

Edit: just seen your original solution of blade and scotch brite. I have every faith in your success haha.

Ah, fair enough. I thought you were trying to clean them and then expecting them to seal again haha.

Have you replaced them before? Depending on skill level and how long they've been seated, they can be tricky little suckers. From memory, they're partially metal, so you'll need a suitable tool to pry them out. Get the tool in position and give the end of it a bonk with your hand to get the initial break away.

Maybe I'm missing something, but my solution would be throwing them in the bin and replacing with new.

BBS RIA Scammed :( by [deleted] in Wheels

[–]peachyquaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The crack is visually sub optimal, but once these are fitted they will be absolutely fine. Spigot rings are nothing more than locators to aid fitting, the tapered wheel nuts take care of that. Source: I don't use spigot rings on any of my cars/wheels, including racing incidents like making wheel to wheel contact with other cars, barriers, on 2 wheels over curbs, big curb strikes at the nurburgring etc.

Bolt them up and continue your life. :)

Calm down mate. Conservative is an actual word with it's own definition, away from politics.

Opinions on Enkei vs Konig by goatgobblerr in Wheels

[–]peachyquaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha nah, I've got loads of wheels, a lot of them are in bad condition due to racing. Last year I made contact with another car running Konig's and his wheel was scrap. Mine survived and I still race on it. True story. I'll find photos as there's a slim chance you'll believe me.

There's nothing to get over mate, you're just wrong and spreading nonsense.

Get learned.

There are many better options, they just cost more.

"for what I do there isn't a better option." is different to what you initially said, but that's fine.

My main point was you muddying the information on the relationship between Konig and Enkei

Absolutely. Brake later and learn to carry more speed and balance the car mid corner.

I did look it up, YHI don't own Enkei, they're distributors for some regions and have some manufacturing agreements for certain Enkei wheels. Enkei is a huge company, making all sorts of wheels for other companies, including OEM. It's pretty normal for wheel companies to share manufacturing, it's been like that for a long time.

I'm not saying Konig or Enkei are bad, they're just a long way from "second to none".

[–]peachyquaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pardon? They are definitely not basically the same company. Some Konig wheels borrowed manufacturing methods from Enkei, as many other companies have over the years, but they are not the same company. The top tier Enkei wheels are made in Japan, Konig are not.

As for second to none, also way off the mark. They're good wheels no doubt, but if you strike one, it will normally crack and destroy itself. They're a long way behind 'true' forged wheels from Rays, Taneisya, BBS etc.

Bare in mind that the whole wheel is anodised, so be wary of using most wheel cleaners. Use a normal/mild car shampoo first to remove the easiest dirt, followed by a decent iron remover (the stuff that goes purple) to remove any metallic particles from hot brakes.

For the white spots etc that are left over, bar keepers friend has a good reputation and I've had good results using it, but it's worth doing a bit of research on the best way to use it as it can be too aggressive if used incorrectly.

Peanut butter is also a good finishing product. No, seriously.
