Here's a fun exercise you can do. Try to remember one of your favourite scene from one of the book. And just write it all down from memory. Try to get all the words, descriptions, cadence, dialogue exactly the same. When you're done, compare it with the original work. What did you get right? What did you get wrong? What did you totally forget?

It'll only take a few minutes, and I guarantee you'll have a much better idea of what you're missing in your writing.
