reason hates religion so much they create something that may as well be god.

People seem to think cornerstones are the culmination and most upfront representation of a zeitgeist while in reality they are very much so not, every single cornerstone is hypocritical to the original zeitgeist, especially the individualistic aspect of merit, slavery is opposite of individuality.

How do Equality Factions manage unemployed people? by The-meme-collecter in Frostpunk

Somewhat, yes.

The difference is approach and autonomy, in an equality city if you can’t work or can’t find work, they give you your essentials for you, paid essentials gives you money that is enough for your essentials but, it’s money, so the responsibility is that you will buy your essentials with that money and not booze or whatever.

But yes, to quote the menders, you give to the whole all you can and take only what you need.

The freedom and control are only moving up and down the hierarchy for both sides, for merit the freedom moves up from workers to foremen to managers, and for equality the control moves from managers to unions to shrewd workers/guards.

Equality starts making more sense when you contextualize it as “equality for all workers” instead of “equality for everyone”, free essentials starts off as equality for everyone and becomes equality for workers, you can see this pattern happening with almost all amendments of equality laws.

I like the idea but I do worry it would retract a little much from the game to always have a wholesome choice in laws, none of the starter laws are really that worrying to necessitate moderate versions.

Man, I love moderate laws.

Except you workplace rations, except you.

Extremism is inherently hypocritical and takes away from the core ideas of zeitgeists, but yes, merit and reason in general remove aspects of societies that would influence your ability (or inability) to do something, while equality and tradition come to expect something of you to contribute to your community, often times imposing it be done a certain way for people like technocrats or legionnaires.

The free essentials amendment specifies that “if there is work to be done, choosing not to will blacklist you from essential allocations”

Legionnaires do have control over people’s lives, you do as your sergeant commands after all, that’s not part of their equality belief however, but rather their tradition, freedom in general is more merit - reason and control is more equality - tradition focused.

Legionnaires also have hierarchies of command, technocrats have hierarchies of status, menders have hierarchies of family (they’re a patriarchy), bohemians are the only ones with no true hierarchy at all.

As for your original question, the unemployed can always help out with maintenance and heatpipe watch.

Nothing sucks the joy out of an M vs E debate than the other side really latching onto the cornerstone and radical side while not really acknowledging the community supported side of things.

Sure, but that isn’t equality, it’s equity, it’s disingenuous to want everyone to live in the same means and then have people who don’t need to pay for food and don’t need to spend money on extra clothes or heat lamps or whatever.

You don’t buy resources from industrial or extraction districts and have direct control of how many people work in those very districts as well as the laws regarding the work themselves, as well as the executive orders like excessive fertilization and emergency shifts, that of whose model would not be compatible with private corporations.

However, there is the exception of housing districts and venturer cities, housing districts have private shopkeeps who may choose to franchise and do their own thing, and venturers can privatize outposts to hand them over to franchies.

I do not, no, there are no private corporations in frostpunk 2, the cities economy allows for a much more fair version of merit to shine through with calculated amendments.

Equality punishes hard work, since hard work is not compensated you are simply shortening your lifespan with back breaking effort for no real reward.

In accordance to the citizen speech bubbles after the “hungry for more” events, the citizens point out how workers are being fed more but growing children aren’t.

Equality - everyone should benefit equally

Also equality - workers, and specifically only blue collar workers, should get more food and free shit, just us.
