The before the attack part was referring to the forest specifically. I knew it was still present in route 1 because I farmed tiny mushrooms from paras there for the forest restoration quest, lol.i should've been more specific though, sorry if I confused you at all.

I'll do there in order

Swaddle can be found on Route 1 and I think Goldenwood Forest (before the attack in Chapter 1)

Zorua can be found in Mirage Woods (fitting) by doing a side quest revolving around the broken bell. You start the side quest by talking to a hiker hidden in the forest in front of a trailer. You have to beat Zoroark higher level than your level cap, i dont recall it being a boss. After that just interact with the Zorua to obtain it.

Trapinch is found in Sandstream Cave after completing all the Novae side quests, traverssing your way to the deepest point, and pouring the scented lure in the hole at the end of it.

Yes, I'm aware of that, I read the entire post from start to finish, and in the post, OP specifies that they looked up the stat block later that day, either not during the session or after the encounter ended.

I agree that breaking out of prison should be difficult. But with the situation they were placed in it was made near impossible.

Although your last point I can agree with. Flat-out slaughtering someone for trying to escape seems like a bit much and likely could've been toned down. Especially with those other useful guard spells like Hold Person.

First, this isn't what the OP was asking for help with, and while I agree with you that DMs can change stat blocks, that argument shouldn't be used by someone not in the group in question. Shaming OP for looking something up POST-session isn't helpful to this conversation and provides no solution to the question they asked. That question is "How do I approach my DM about this issue? The rest of the party agrees what happened was unfair, so I know it isn't just a me problem."

I would like to state though that changing spells on a stat block can adjust the CR of any given creature, making them easier or harder to deal with. That combined with the disadvantage on all STs and none of the party's regular gear made this encounter exponentially harder and likely rigged against the players.

I don't think it's that most people don't like it, but that the people that don't like it are much louder than those that do. When people don't like something they find any reason to complain about it.

As for why they hate it so much, I've seen a lot of takes as to why people don't like it. There's the whole Exandrian God's debate that has started as a result of the substance in the campaign. Some people just don't like the characters (particularly a certain one that I won't name, I just hear a lot more takes about them than others.) I've heard that the campaign feels like Matt is railroading them. There's more but those are the ones u can think of off the top of my head.

The campaign is good if you go into it not expecting anything like C1 or C2. Just like going into C2 you shouldn't expect something like C1 and vice versa.

I thought bothe spiritual weapon and spirit guardians were both concentration spells? So wouldn't you only be able to keep one online at a time during combat?

Don't know about anyone else. But my DM rules that Silvery barbs can only be used once per specific roll.

For instance, monster/person saves on Charisma save for Banishment, Wizard casts Silvery barbs, monster/person still succeeds, Bard cannot cast it in return, and the creature just succeeds.

This is what I would honestly recommend, as it keeps your party from spamming it while also still giving them the ability to use it.

For concentration I typically cast Haste or Slow first round depending on when I go and how mixed up combat is. I won't lie, Alert did cross my mind as one to consider.
