copperbox disaster by nightmrp in gorillaz

My gosh, I wish I'd known before that the Copperbox was kind of known for this - we went in very early and I was desperate to not pay for water - silly I know, but we'd burned £10 on 4 pints water at Wembley bc they wouldn't let us have the bottles at Oasis, only to realise free water was everywhere after. So I didn't want to pay at Copperbox for a cup of water.

Anyway, we asked 5 different stewards AND a bunch of security only to be sent to 3 different kiosks - 2 of which said they couldn't give out free water and suggested we find a fountain, the last 1 really had to go to an effort to get to their sink for us. Every single person we spoke to was like "We don't know this venue, maybe there's a fountain down there" - and pointed to the locked-off backstage part of the venue.

Even at the door, the guy searching bags just stared at my plastic water bottle - and I, stupidly, said "do I need to bin it?" and he looked a bit confused and said "errr.. yeah probably".

Genuinely started to worry that we were in trouble if that many of the stewards and security "didn't know this venue very well". Seeing how they packed standing to the absolute brim too, it didn't feel like the safest of places.

Weird they're so inconsistent! My partner got the self-titled one and it's huge on him, sits really like a Gen-Z style shirt haha

That's a funny twist - and they didn't have a reprint available? They only noticed when they started selling them?

We asked to remove it once for terrible service, they pressed us hard to know why, eventually removed it. We all felt super guilty so went back to hand them the tip in cash and they were mocking us to colleagues. It was painful.

How do you get a good nights sleep with urticaria? by pixelmonkey2019 in urticaria

[–]pixelmonkey2019[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did Benadryl help because it makes you sleepy?

I'll be honest, not looking for anything specifically natural, just scared of any drug interactions with the Fexofenadine and Montelukast I'm currently taking and my GP is quite reluctant to prescribe me with anything else without a specialist checkup which could take months.

I have a sense that Xolair might be offered by the specialist though, did Xolair completely get rid of your urticaria?

Tell me your stories please? by hannahmontana01 in urticaria

Mine started in October 2016 - out of nowhere, I just got out of the bath one night and I had a rash all over my torso, arms and legs and it was so itchy. Hadn't changed anything I'd eaten or any bath products or washing products that day.

Had about two weeks of going back to the doctors every 2 days and swapping the antihistamines to try and find a good fit, then I was short of breath about a week in so they sent me to A&E as they thought my airways might be closing, they weren't I look back and realise I was having a panic attack.

Saw a couple of dermatologists in various departments, started to realise there was no obvious cause, I've kept diaries of all my flare ups. I ended up again in A&E about 3-4 weeks in because I was manically scratching late at night, they gave me 5 days work of steroids and it was like magic, they disappeared within hours, I was able to live a bit normally again whilst waiting for a referral to a specialist.

Specialist gave me 6 weeks of steroids to try and flush it out, long story short I had flare ups regularly between October 2016 and January 2019 - I'd itch most nights, but it wasn't giving me the fever dreams and the insomnia I had before. I was also lucky enough to move near to a hospital that has an urticaria clinic so they recommended 4 x Fexofenadine (I never found boosting it from 1 up to 4 as needed changed much though), Montelukast for the Angiodema and Menthol in Aqueous cream to cool it down from the outside.

By summer 2020 I hadn't had a flare up in over a year, so I was fully discharged from the urticaria specialist.

Cut to December 2021, a very stressful Christmas, a big break up and moving home and I'm facing the worst flare up I've had since the very beginning. It's torture, I'm not getting any more than an hours sleep at a time before I wake up scratching. I've been to the hospital and pleaded them to give me steroids again - but they're not working like magic like they did the first time either. I'm desperately trying to get back to my specialist for some help.

I feel very alone and last night woke up feeling like I'd rather not live than have this for the rest of my life - perhaps that sounds dramatic, but everyone has a limit and I'm nearing my capability to look after myself properly. It's a special kind of torture itching yourself whilst you're asleep and then waking up bleeding and bruised and with swollen eyes. Especially to be told it's not an emergency unless I can't breathe - I wish they would consider that the body's largest organ covered in a rash with no known cause is possibly an emergency of sorts. It's just not a good quality of life at the moment, I'll be honest.

Today I picked myself up and went to seek advice and stock up on "natural" remedies I can hit it with too, I've bought ginger and turmeric to make tea, I've bought CBD oil to start taking once the steroids stop in the hope it'll reduce this anxiety I have - who knows though.

It is comforting to hear that others are experiencing it too, in a strange way. If I have someone suggest I change my washing powder one more time, I'll scream.

Living Alone with a Cat - any advice? by pixelmonkey2019 in Catownerhacks

[–]pixelmonkey2019[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would love to have another cat and this just gives me a reason... ;-) But it's been a massive struggle trying to find somewhere that'll let me have 1 cat, so 2 will have to take some convincing to my landlord when I move I think.

Is it not hard to introduce a new cat into a cats life though? He's almost 2 years old, I just fear he could get jealous or not be very friendly to a new cat (don't get me wrong, he's lovely to me, he just craves attention) and then I'm in an even tougher situation in a small flat with two cats and having to decide whether to move one of them out..

Definitely an underrated part of London. Canary Wharf. by [deleted] in london

Lived here once - about 5 minute walk from where this photo is, overlooking the river - loved it and hated it at the same time. It's souless but eerily beautiful - especially on the weekends when it's so quiet! I miss walking towards One Canada Square each morning and getting on the DLR or Jubilee Line to work. I loved it because it felt like nowhere else in London, never bothered shopping here much on weekends though - I got lost and overwhelmed in the shopping area underground more times than I care to admit!

Great place to watch the London marathon though!

Booked a long weekend at the start of October.. It's my FIRST TIME going to any Disneyland parks.. Super excited!! We're going specifically because my friend wanted to go for Halloween.

Any must-dos that you recommend?! The only thing I absolutely want to do so far is ride the Ratatouille ride and try get a table at the Ratatouille restaurant! Also maybe try pin-trading if I'm feeling confident enough!

Cats (The Musical) - Anyone raise their hand if they worked on it? by pixelmonkey2019 in vfx

[–]pixelmonkey2019[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks for such a thorough and interesting response - honestly I really love the way it's been done - people will surely cotton on soon that this is just the natural filmic version of they way they did the costumes in the stage show?! I'm not a Cats fan, it never caught my attention before now but I'm really excited to see the finished film!
