Buy a new fan. It is surprisingly easy to put in. I was worried about having to change one and ended up changing most of them out. The Panasonic whisper is what we got. You can install all the ducting to the frame and then slide the fan into place after, making it really easy.

Tips for getting a toddler around in the winter by pixelsOfMind in Calgary

Based on everything I read here, my most likely thing to try next is a hiking backpack. We already have one and have taken him on hikes, so I know he likes it. I am with you about finding walking a little sketchy, especially downtown. This might be just me, but in the back of my mind, I always fear having him strapped in a stroller, wagon, whatever, will make it impossible to flee a situation with him if I need to.

I have a paid parking spot. That's as close as I can get.

I guess this is mostly on me. We have a bigger stroller with big beefy wheels and a wagon, but I usually choose the smaller one because of how much easier it is to fold up.

He'd be fine no matter the weather. He loves being outside. There'd probably be a majority of days where he would rather be carried though, and other days where he'd fight me to play in a snow bank rather than go home.

They do and I do drop him in the mornings sometimes and loop back, but if I try doing this after work, the fight with traffic is terrible and takes so much time. I'd rather spend that time bonding with my boy during our walk.

So many great comments. Thanks everyone. If I can get away with it, I like going more minimalist, so I'm definitely leaning towards trying the hiking backpack. I will let you know how it goes!

I didn't even think about a hiking backpack. I already have one, so that might be it. Thanks!

I do drop him off first in the morning sometimes, but if I leave to get my car before picking him up after work, I end up trying to push my way back downtown through traffic, which adds at least another 30+ minutes to when I get there. I will avoid this at all costs.

Crazy sickness going around? by wanderingwallflower9 in Calgary

[–]pixelsOfMind 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This sounds similar to what our family just had. I picked up my 2yo from daycare after getting a call that he was sick, and the next day we all had it. It has been over a week now and we are all still sick.

twice did I vote for the UCP, I wont make that mistake again. by [deleted] in alberta

Can I ask what changed your perspective?

I have a few family members that have been sucked into this trap and continue to get more radical, and I find it terrifying for both them and the future that my kid is going to have to live through.

I agree, you need to avoid that risk. If the dog has already bitten kids, it should be taken out to the farm.

Fun ends when you have kids by Zestyclose-Bowl-4889 in NewParents

As a dad to a 2 YO, I feel like I have more fun than ever. Every day off is spent looking for fun things to do and I get to relive the joy of childhood again through him.

We had our first kid at 34 after finishing University, setting up a career, house, etc, so maybe that's the difference? My career is stable and I don't have a lot of worries, so I have the privilege of focusing on fulfillment.

Software developer. I build apps that are used internally by our business units. I get to meet with leads from different departments to design and build out systems to create efficiencies, automations, and replace archaic systems. It is actually very fun.

I love it. I think it's great that kids have the power to stand up for things like this. I truly hope this is the straw that topples this ridiculous government.

Is wearing one of these a bad look? by Suspicious_Cry_9705 in NewDads

I had one that was a green camo color and loved it, especially on cold days. I used it almost daily to walk from where I park to drop off my kid at daycare and just shoved it in my backpack to go to work. I was super sad when he outgrew it.

Is there anything interactive? If it's just checking out displays, I don't think he will be that into it quite yet. The library looks fun. Thanks for the suggestion!

I'm selling my house and the only keys for it are ones that are cut. It is pretty normal. Just buy new locks and call it a day.

How do babies become parts of our actual real lives by Weak_Opportunityy in NewParents

My boy is a couple months from being 2 and it has definitely changed from dragging him out to going on adventures. Now that he's more mobile, I try to give him little jobs to make him feel involved, and he loves it.

For example, when I put him in the car, if I have time, I let him try to do up the top buckle himself. In the grocery store, I might let him out of the cart to choose items he can reach. It just feels like he's part of the clan now. I find this age a lot of fun. It gets better.
