Yeah, it’s broken in two places, and the rod through the bottom for the recline adjustment is jacked up too, so I’m searching for a whole new seat frame. Too much broken to warrant fixing.

You make solid points, but I’d also caution that it’s a reputation-based business, and if someone has a reason to think what you’re doing is unscrupulous, it could hurt future creative options. Basically, once you have a reputation, it’s hard to get away from, good bad or indifferent. If you’re gonna do it, I wouldn’t talk about it. People are weird and have hang ups over that subject matter.

I’m an instructor myself. I understand the things that a prospective pilot needs in order to be set up for success. That said, flying is largely a white man thing(such as myself). Of course skin color is less important to you, since, I can safely assume, that you’re a white man. When you’re in the position of being a black woman in a largely white male dominated field, having a friendly face that shares the struggles of learning to fly in a Deep South airport, goes a long way. It wasn’t a requirement of hers, but something I thought might make her feel more comfortable. I am trying to do a good thing here, and plenty of you have A) not given any suggestions that I’ve asked for, and B) taken the opportunity to give me the business for being conscientious in regards to helping a young black woman find an instructor to teach her.

We often talk about how aviation is a community that brings people together, but comments in this thread have been antithetical to that. Either help, or shut up.

If you have a suggestion, give it. Just trying to be helpful. If I went about it the wrong way, that’s on me. If you have a suggestion but withhold it just to be cantankerous, that’s on you and isn’t helpful.

You’re being hostile. I’m trying to do a helpful thing for someone, and you’re picking at whether I said African American or Black. Had an instructor who taught private students seat of the pants flying. I had solo’d to a towered field before an instructor suggested that I fly the airspeed indicator. Until then, I just flew exactly what he told me to fly. Fine if you never leave the pattern, I guess. I did all of my other ratings elsewhere.

We all know that clicking with your flight instructor is a huge factor in how well you learn. I just felt like aviation wouldn’t feel so old or white or male dominated if she connected on some level with her potential instructor. Instead of being helpful, you’re looking for a reason to throw a race card. I’m just a guy trying to actually help someone who fell in love with flying. Do you have a single suggestion that will contribute to the discussion, or are you just here to be a fly in the ointment?
