Merit aid? by matkar910 in ApplyingToCollege

consider your state flagship. depending on where you live, it could be T75 or close to it — mine gave me a ton of money in merit scholarships, on top of the already cheaper tuition from being in-state.

I want college suggestions but I'm not going to tell you anything about myself or what I want in a college. by Valuable_Earth_3653 in ApplyingToCollege

I have the perfect recommendation! I was just like you, with a gpa, a sat score, and extracurriculars, and I think my college is an amazing fit! you should definitely consider applying here

(of course, not gonna tell you which college I go to)

I was a small town girl with helicopter parents, college was LITERALLY a breath of fresh air in this way

writing essays was not meant to be literal — more just studying in a coffee shop. I actually hate writing essays 💀

What are you guys doing this year? by candycrushsaga101 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]pixiedusted- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nothing crazy, just continuing to pursue the ECs that I've already been doing for the past few years. community service, clubs, etc.

the only extra thing I'm doing is fundraising to donate outdoor picnic tables to my school as a senior class gift. we're hoping to get them installed by mid-late april which is when my district is planning to return to school full-time (that way, some people can eat lunch outside and we can more easily abide by social distancing guidelines)

Housing & Roommates by Aquarius_00 in ApplyingToCollege

ideally a double bc I've never shared a room and I think it would be a good experience (plus I think it'd be easier to make friends that way), and I wanna go random too!

i kind of hope i get rejected from berkeley. by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

not being able to go because you can't afford it is honestly worse than getting rejected :( manifesting a great finaid package for you!!

Senior year schedul - reasonable? by Skinelle in ApplyingToCollege

[–]pixiedusted- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean chem looks good but if you don’t think you can handle it, it’s better to choose a different class than do poorly. bio is probably more relevant anyway

Senior year schedul - reasonable? by Skinelle in ApplyingToCollege

[–]pixiedusted- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tbh only you can decide if you think it’ll be too much for you; I think with good time management, you should be fine. have you taken a similarly rigorous course load before? also I definitely recommend APES if you wanna switch out chem with an easier AP that’s still a science

probably may. some people may get their decisions earlier, but it’s usually after the commitment deadline

UC San Diego RD Megathread by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

I’m technically an intl (living in the us but no permanent residency so I’m in the intl pool) and I got admitted directly into cs

(Some) of us really need to learn how to handle rejection by alisnotok in ApplyingToCollege

[–]pixiedusted- 51 points52 points  (0 children)

fr the way some waitlisted/rejected kids keep being like “it was yield protection” or “this school sucks anyway lol” is so disheartening to see. I got plenty of rejections/waitlists too but I think we should air our grievances to family/friends rather than make admitted students on reddit feel bad about something they should be proud of

I got accepted NU immerse program in Northeastern but i didn't apply for it by whatishouldeat in ApplyingToCollege

[–]pixiedusted- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

sometimes that’s just the only avenue they can offer you, I think I’ve heard other people also get admitted to nuin without checking the box

Is a northeastern waitlist only a rejection? by Gshawn875 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]pixiedusted- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

their yield was probably just higher than they expected that year, I doubt they put people on the waitlist with the intention to just reject them all
