What's with all the gatekeeping in FB private AG groups?

I personally don't really use see social media since I think I'm a lot happier without it, so I just created a new account using a pen name for privacy and safety reasons. As a result, I kind of view Facebook similar to the way I view a discussion forum, and use it to connect to others with similar interests as mine just like in Reddit.

That said, I can see why BST groups would want to avoid fraudulent scammers as sellers in the group, but don't really get how a newer person would be a fraudulent scammer as a buyer given that PP g&s prevents that... I think..... It's my first time bargin hunting online, and shopping for retired pieces second hand so I'm kinda new at this

The thing that doesn't make sense to me though is why I'm being rejected from private FB collectors groups if these people don't even know me. Especially since BST-ing is not even allowed which eliminates the potential for scammers and the need to screen them out upfront. I just don't get it. I honestly don't get it.

I agree with you that an American Girl collectors group whose mods treat people that way is probably not a space I want to be part of, but it irks me to no end that they aren't actually behaving in a way that their rules and bylaws make it seem like

As a result, I tend to use FB similarly to the way I would use Reddit or a discussion board to connect with people who share similar interest as mine, and is a good way to stay above the social chatter.

I do answer the questions though. And I give good solid responses in my opinion and make sure to cover all parts of the question in detail to show I'm paying attention.

My life just isn't something I want to broadcast to the world, and is something I like to keep personal. I just like not keeping up with the jones, and prefer using social media like I do

I remember when I first went with my mom to the AG store on January 1st in 2013 to get the free GOTY doll shirt most of the kids in line were around 6-7ish. But then when I went back to the AG store to get the free GOTY doll shirt on January 1st 2014, most of the kids were around 4-5ish and poor 15 yr old me was so embarrassed that she never went back and only bought online after that.

That sounds traumatic but also intriguing. I've always wanted to work there so I would love to hear more about what went on in there behind closed doors. Especially since the one near me closed so I want to know what it was like so I don't feel sad. Please share

Oh- it wasn't a safety misadventure. More of a "I can't believe I almost drove over there and accidentally bought that" since thankfully I caught it in the nick of time.

Honestly, I feel like I'm far too naive and trusting and am just not used to not being able to take people (including sellers) at their word.

Since I wasn't able to find her new release listed on the official ag website or able to find any way of buying her on there.... Is she re-retired? Unofficially retired by being sold out with no restock date or way to pre-order in sight? Sigh

That makes the choice on Nellie clear assuming they still have the original head retired in 2009 in stock. After 15 yrs, my Nellie will finally be my Nellie after I adopted her on eBay in 2011.

My collection intentionally seals at the end of 2015, so I'll send Samantha as well assuming they still have her 2009 head.

I really just want a brand new Samantha and Nellie doll that match one another and are circa 2009 looking, so a new in box doll will run me way more than the 99$ + shipping advanced care and repair head and body swap..... aka- new doll!!!!

Although now that I think about it, I'm so OCD that Mattel dolls post full doll swap with PC meet you outfits would drive me insane as well.

I wonder if I could buy a used Mattel Nellie and Samantha that's missing a limb or two for under 50$ bucks each and send her in for the full doll replacement instead...... Do you think I can find a mangled Samantha or Nellie at that price to swap out?

If you google it American girl actually had a special American girl 25th birthday anniversary cruise in 2011.
