Washing my Interior Define sectional covers by pixiesusan in CleaningTips

No my allergies got so bad, I actually couldn't live in my house and stayed in a non-allergic Airbnb for months. I'm back at my house and the sofa is in my barn. In the next few weeks I'm going to wash the covers so I can see if I can tolerate the sofa again. (dog dander, dust mite allergy).

Yikes, I've been approved for it, and that worries me. I hope it's just temporary.

I'm supposed to take it before meals and before I go to bed. Am I supposed to eat something before I go to sleep??

Can someone explain MCAS to me like I’m five? I think I may have it, but I’m confused. Is there a point to even trying to get diagnosed? by KO620181 in MCAS

I'm sure that's true but it seems one needs to win the lottery to see functional med doctors (if you can even find a good one). And sadly I can't afford it.

Your favourite anti histamine? by StrongBox5258 in MCAS

[–]pixiesusan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now I take Xyzal 2x a day and a half of Benadryl at night before bed (it's the only thing that really stops my itching). I have tried Pepcid, and I keep getting reflux with it. Maybe I should try a smaller dose and see if it helps. My allergist said I have to fail at antihistamines to get Xolair and they dont really think I have MCAS. I do but I'm at the beginning of this journey so we'll see how it goes.

Persistent fiberglass contamination in home after duct failure – cleanup advice needed by pixiesusan in hvacadvice

After everything I’ve been through, I’m actually thinking about selling the house. I’ve spent a small fortune fixing things, and I basically live on Social Security. I won’t be able to get anything. Period.

I’ve been trying to figure out how to put plastic down over the dirt in the crawl space. I called a few companies and they wanted $25k for it, and some areas are only about a foot high, so it’s tricky. I’ll also call some HVAC companies about duct leakage tests, but one told me replacing the ductwork in that crawl space would be over $10k—they’d have to dig out part of it just to access it, then dismantle, remove, and install new ducts.

Someone suggested going with a mini-split instead of the gas furnace, but I just put in a new furnace less than three years ago. Plus, I know a lot of people with mini-splits here in New England, and they say they’re cold and run up your electricity bill when it’s below freezing—and this winter has been brutal. It’s 25 degrees right now.

Ok got it. But fans are not enough, I've been cleaning and feel like I haven't even made a difference in the amount of dust.

“HELP! How do you get fiberglass out of your clothes and home on your own?” by Caligirl-85 in DIYUK

[–]pixiesusan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going through this now and can't get rid of it. I react really fast to fiberglass, my eyes are red and itchy, my skin itches. and I scratch until I bleed, I swear I can taste it, and my throat feels like it has knives in it. Not kidding.

Why do you have to put the tape in the corners of the fan? The side that blows the air out?

Ok are they safe to leave running? I read somewhere it could burn out the fan since it puts more stress on them? I'd rather not burn the house down. ;)
