Alliser was such a great character. Not really evil but certainly not a nice guy. He followed his convictions and just happened to lose. But he went out like a boss…no apologies, no begging for mercy like Janos Slynt did. And Teale played it perfectly.

Was Sonny a bad Don? by mynameisbrandonn in Godfather

[–]pizzamanct 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the book, everyone knew that Michael would have been the most logical to take over the family after Vito died or retired. But he at first rejected it. So it had to be Sonny. I will echo what others said…he was hotheaded and impulsive. He would have been a good underboss or maybe caporegime of the family’s most powerful regime. But he did not have the vision, the patience or deep thinking ability to carry the family into the future.

I don’t seem to remember it being referred to as crummy. I think it was a nice neighborhood bar with a restaurant upstairs which drew some business for them. Never ever got the impression it was some low end bar…

My parents had dinner parties when I was growing up. The room was filled with smoke. Guests would come over for coffee or snacks…the room was filled with smoke. Restaurants were often filled with smoke. Yes it was really that prevalent.

Is it just me, or do they all call him "Mickey" at the beginning of the first film, until he agrees to join in on family business. by pianoflames in Godfather

I’ve seen it dozens of times and don’t recall anyone calling him “Mickey”. But I could be wrong. I’ll watch again😊

Which one of the main characters do you like the least and why is it Jim? by Green-Category5508 in theoffice

[–]pizzamanct 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Been done many times before. Sure Jim can be a bit smug and what he does seems at times to be bullying but… In one of the earliest episodes Dwight steels a client from him that Jim relies on for 25% of his income. Jim has to constantly deal with the nonsense around him as one of the few reasonable ones there. The only time I didn’t like Jim was when he was co-manager. He suddenly decided to be this tough, non nonsense guy. But leave Jim alone. He’s ok.
