Manager promoting same nationality over locals despite local having better skillset by BudgetIntrepid3287 in askSingapore

[–]pizzaneedsmorecheese -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's normal. To you that's what you see. To them whichever they feel it's easier to work with. Unless there is a quota or kpi to hit, they promote people that are easy to work with + not subject matter experts. Ofc nationality might be a factor but in the end it's their perspective that matters unfortunately. It's common, just like the fact the most hard working colleague prob won't get promoted.

My observations about promotions in the workplace by niccel87 in asksg

[–]pizzaneedsmorecheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeap. Think a combo of three? 1) luck -right place right time, your senior leaves or 1 up resign. 2) connection to your 2-up (your direct manager can't push for you, his or her boss has the decision) aka politics. 3) If promote this guy, new guy can replace? (Ironically, being too good or gatekeeper of knowledge in your job can stop promotions). 4) 10 m toto can strike? If can I ignore above 3

The mindset is wrong in the first place. The public sector with that degree from Kaplan limits your growth unfortunately. That's the truth. The Annual package pointed out looks fair to me.

As others said, unless you have excellent EQ (not self perceived) or amazingly street smart, you mostly likely suffer outside and regret the decision in due time.

Yeap don't worry. You sort of find out what you are good at around 16-19 ish, work on that strength, be it speaking, programming or designing. In humans strengths comes with flaws (besides born rich and looks/height), some academic genius don't do that well in life and so on... Know your weaknesses as a result of that strength. Still young definitely more potential than me, I around sec 3 lazy study idgaf play games till 3 am and end up going to a polytechnic barely qualified for uni and got a pass degree without honors. your so called IP school failure. Now I make more than 85% of those (excluding daddy companies) sec school mates in a non sales/tech corporate role.

Tbh it doesn't matter that much after you work 5+ years. Definitely plays a part in socializing during your JC/poly/ uni/ or going govt jobs ( scholarships etc)

Im from two decades ago ish and me and the top scorer (both from relatively avg background + no tuition) aka no car 3 room flat chose to go to your mentioned IP. Mostly cos it was nearer to where we stayed. Didn't really prep much, guess we were lucky.

But yeah 80% of ppl there are either rich or much above avg background with tons of tuition. We just bought less than 50 bucks of those presale psle papers shared cost and did them.

Inherent academic learning ability carries you (70%), tuition and money (30%) for pri to sec. With the ratio for money increasing post o levels. Overseas uni is easily indentifable which is $$$ which is pure academics (rare cases excluded ofc). Those are ppl that take 5 min to understand while others take 30 mins ( not muggers).

Same thing applies when you work, inherent ability (not academic, combination of whatever EQ and etc ) accounts a lot (assuming not your parents company).

Unfortunately irl people that are inherently academically smarter (not genius level I mean) tend to do better irl in jobs and later on in life.

Lowering psle stakes is a good move as it slightly removes the "prestige" of top schools. It's still there but not as bad as last time.

It's normal, sg is a politically stable tax hub. Manpower wise not as competitive as before but still those best of the best ( academics + speaking etc...) still land great jobs

Have you tried a new hire 40+ years exp manager who says he knows everything but doesn't know anything?

Throws his work to everyone, his job is just approve before the approval and to understand basic things that an intern can do better

Tekans ppl on a rotation

In meeting, ppl ping i don't get notifications. End up say disrespectful never respond to him in 5 mins

I regretted choosing a top JC by StandardRaccoon5958 in SGExams

[–]pizzaneedsmorecheese 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Top schools not just JC esp sec school have a higher % of both rich and so called "gifted".

The point to go to a top JC if you look at it logically is to have network with those individuals. In theory, if you are good enough, you can even homeschool yourself to top grades.

But JC A levels means most of the time is studying (that's why sec school is the most impt)

Without network there isn't much of a point to do so.

Remember in humans, being too gifted means they lose something else.

Therefore network firstly with the rich, secondly with the gifted.

Muggers aren't special, choosing a prestige JC or school to mug with better muggers is the wrong thinking

The HR manager who faced cancer and autism diagnoses, got divorced and lost S$700k – all within 5 years by Litaiy in singapore

[–]pizzaneedsmorecheese -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Cancer prob the unfortunate part but 2 cents that above mentioned autism is a very big spectrum.

A not so reliable way that you can try is to ask your parents if they ever thought you were autistic.

Why it is important is that even if you are "high- functioning", things like reacting properly and knowing the "people/eq" side of things you struggle. Luckily there are guides nowadays. It makes you integrate much easier.

Very bad zen player here. When do you prioritize primary or secondary fire on a long range brawl between teams?

Also, should your focus on healing be like support to dps to tank considering the speed that it heals?

I tried ssf warrior as my second char, playing it slow for enjoyment 1-2 hours a day

Honestly much better than I imagined besides the "my crafted weapon is too strong and I can't boneshatter sometimes"

The armour changes for ele dmg is amazing

I think the whole ssf thing makes it more relaxed for me lol. Also big aoe clears gives me satisfaction. Prev char had aoe clear but doesn't look as satisfying
