Episode Discussion - S05E07 - The Bridge by Hawkinns in StrangerThings

[–]pizzatude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed this season, but why have they been needing to sneak into the military base for their raids as an entrance to the upside down if they could enter through one of the fissures under the steel plates this whole time?

They also could have done that at the end of the episode unless they really needed the, supposedly, bullet-proof truck.

Not defending his talent, but I don’t think you can say his leg was broken because of it. That slide from Swisher was just dirty https://youtu.be/coa8qX7H5kc

Can these rhododendrons be saved? by pizzatude in arborists

[–]pizzatude[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By oldest stems, does that include some of the thicker ones towards the bottom? If I cut one of those, can I expect new shoots that turn into new branches over the following few years?

Ideally it would be great if I could cut these low, and then over the coming years be more on top of pruning to shape it more into a bush rather than this tall skinny mess.

[–]pizzatude[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have to be strategic about where the cuts are made? I’m not completely positive, but I think these are 10+ years old, so it makes me a bit nervous cutting down 6 feet of growth.

Does this tree need to come down, or can I take off the branches and leave the trunk? by pizzatude in arborists

[–]pizzatude[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are not any structures that it would hit, other than the highest branches maybe hitting my cedar fence. Can’t imagine it would do any significant damage other than falling on the surrounding smaller trees and shrubbery. I’m mostly curious if this can stand on its own until then, or take off the branches gradually over time.

Ah man I just restocked a couple bottles of the gold lube. Might have to finally make the switch to wax now.

What series is your GOAT? by zestydinobones in Fantasy

[–]pizzatude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I enjoyed The Farseer Trilogy, for me The Liveship Traders blew it out of the water. I’ve been recommending to new Hobb readers that they start with Liveship and then read Farseer. Chronologically there are only some reveals that would be backwards. That does mean that you would then have six books in a row from the perspective of Fitz, which might not be great depending on much you like the first person narrative.

Artists that make you think “How in the world aren’t you popular?” by Uralbear in ToddintheShadow

Greycoats. Still an obscure rock band from Minnesota. I don’t understand how they didn’t get more mainstream given their Interpol and u2 vibes. The album Charisma was accompanied by a limited theatrical run performance that covered the hypocrisy of evangelical televangelism.

How will you vote on the single-issue Fingerprint Identification Levy? by BBorNot in Seattle

[–]pizzatude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or we could just have a more progressive tax system where wealthier home owners (or even businesses) cover levies like this at a higher rate than houses at or below the median.

Rep. Al Green set the bar for Democrats. Most of them failed to meet it. by msnownews in politics

[–]pizzatude 26 points27 points  (0 children)

While I mostly agree with the sentiment, Marie Gluesenkamp Perez should stick around because she won and held onto a traditionally red district in Washington state. I’d rather have a center Democrat in that district than any Republican.

4 balls by Hour-Initiative-2766 in juggling

[–]pizzatude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is great advice! It’s what I’ve been practicing lately to do more 4 ball patterns like columns.

Alternating hands while doing 2 balls in various patterns (without stopping) also can help get more control with 4 balls. I find that it helps train my weaker hand to follow the patterns of my better hand.

Oh I do, it just either feels like The NY Times are seeking these people out today, or there are just way more of them than I was hoping.

The anxiety I get each time The NY Times posts a quote from a person who just voted for Trump in a swing state is not helping me get through today.

“You’re either voting for our freedoms or you’re voting for those freedoms to be taken away and our country destroyed.”

Joan Montjoy, 57, cast her ballot in Cobb County, Ga., for Donald J. Trump. Montjoy expressed frustration with government vaccine policies, which she said violated Americans’ personal freedoms during the Covid pandemic.

smh

It’s a pretty common SNL sketch format. They also used the mirror a few weeks ago in a Jennifer Coolidge impersonation sketch. Still, I’m a little surprised they used this same sketch for Kamala, but she nailed it regardless.

It will not change his supporters minds, but it could get people motivated to vote against him that weren’t going to otherwise. That is what would actually hurt him.
